Red China: People’s Daily issues claim on Okinawa
AFPC China Reform Monitor ^ | 5/22/2013 | Joshua Eisenman, ed.

The People’s Daily, the Communist Party of China’s official newspaper, has published an article arguing that China has a claim to the Ryukyu Island chain, which includes Okinawa – home to major U.S. air force and marine bases and 1.3 million people. The Ryukyus were a “vassal state” that paid tribute to Chinese emperors until Japan annexed the islands in 1879, the article claims. “Unresolved problems relating to the Ryukyu Islands have reached the time for reconsideration,” it said, citing post-World War II declarations that required Japan to return Chinese territory. In response, Tokyo lodged a formal diplomatic protest with Beijing, Japan Today reports. China’s foreign ministry spokesman, in comments carried by the People’s Daily, replied that: “China does not accept Japan’s representations or protests.”

How China never even claimed the island ever?

How about our claim, since my late father helped take Okinawa and many men were wounded or died there?

When I was stationed in Okinawa I learned some of it’s history. In the seventeenth century China claimed Okinawa, so did Japan. Not wanting to see their island become a battleground Ryukyuans succeeded in appeasing both. When the Chinese showed up once a year to collect tribute the Ryukyuan court appeared Chinese, when the Japanese showed up it appeared to be Japanese.

I put my money on Japan if China makes a play for the Island chain.

I wonder if our fearless leader asleep in the White Hut understands this is more of a slap in his face than anything else...the world knows Obama is weak...

Can anyone imagine the Chinese making claims to an island with a US military base under any other POTUS...

I know the Chicoms know that if Japan wanted to go nuclear, they'd have a deliverable nuke in a month. So why all the bluster?

He has nightmares, serial nightmares, not dreams.

In one there is a tree and a rope. In another he is riding in a tumbrell over a bumpy cobblestone street. Ahead there is a guiotine surrounded by a jeering crowd and one old woman knitting

If the Japanese were smart they would have started arming themselves with nukes the minute they saw the head koranimal giving aid and comfort to Putin before our last election.

Good afternoon.

the minute they saw the head koranimal president giving aid and comfort to Putin before our last election.

I appreciate your point of view. 50% of the people voted him in knowing this. That is a tough reality for the other 50%.

Your opinion has more power with the edit.

Imho.
