Lisa Jackson, meet Apple.
The biggest piece of new information that Apple CEO Tim Cook dropped last night at the D11 conference: That he's hired Jackson, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency, to lead Apple's green efforts.
The move strikes me as both bold and risky.
It's bold because in Jackson, Cook gains a high-profile and well-connected chemical engineer who is well-versed in policy. Apple's environmental footprint is immense; the company literally produces and packages more than 100 million devices every year, most of them iPhones and iPads.
Apple has the largest non-utility solar power farm in the country, and is one of the biggest customers of Bloom Energy's fuel cell power generation products. If she gets it right, Jackson could be the most influential corporate environmental policy executive in the world.
Which is why the Jackson hire is also risky. Jackson's career and experience has been in government, not Silicon Valley, and Apple's culture has some pretty strong antibodies. For Jackson to be successful, she's going to have to move to Silicon Valley, transform herself into a product-driven executive and spend as much time as possible with Jony Ive, the head of industrial design, and Bob Mansfield, the senior VP of technologies at Apple, from day one.
Oh yes ...a real genius for sure.
It’s official, I now hate Apple.
I’m a loyal Mac user since 1985, but I will for now and evemore HATE APPLE!
I was considering an iPhone—No more.
I’ve been waiting for the other shoe to drop. I wondered why the dems decided to call Apple to the carpet for doing what every good business does — protect its liquid assets by judicial use of the tax laws of the countries it is based in. Now we know it was a strong arm tactic to get one of theirs into position at Apple.
They may eventually exert pressure to get control of the top spot at Apple some day. It is just another day at Chicago Gangland Politics International.
This is satire, right?
Senate committee puts Apple on trial.
Apple hires friend of senate committee.
Tim Cook shows his colors. Just one more left wing major US company CEO. Sounds like the Cook payoff for Obama to keep his IRS out of Apple’s way.
Sadly, no.........
what a patehtic choice, Apple.
green? how much green ya paying her off wiith?
This woman will be fired by Apple’s Board of Directors in less than 12 months.
For 12 months, she will be used for D.C. connections to provide value to Apple by skirting EPA regs and gaining special treatment and exmeptions and taxpayer funded grants for Apple greenwashing projects.
Then the midterms electioneering will start, DC will lock down the budgeting process, and she’ll lose all value to Apple, and be kicked to the curb.
The woman is extremely dangerous, causing major losses to the NJ economy, losses that will never be recovered in the working lives of the employees of the companies she targeted.
People! It’s smart (and, admittedly, cynical) insurance policy.
TRANSLATION:
Apple hired this P-I-G due to her Federal Gov’t connections to smooth things out for Apple. She will be a lobbyist of sorts
Another reason not to buy anything Apple sells. They don’t make shyte. They are liberal salesmen and distributors sitting in Cupertino California.
Excatly! Apple libs hired her fer her Fed Gov’t connection nothing more nothing less. Plus the Apple fan base of gays, feminazis and urban libs will love they hired this Obungu/EPA apparatchik
Best comment on this I’ve seen to date went to the effect of “If Apple’s accountants are being honest, her salary should be listed as ‘extortion payments’ on the balance sheets.”
First Al Gore and now this sleaze? Not a good move for Apple and I guess you could call me a fanboy. It reeks of being political insurance.
If she in anyway gets a hold of hiring at the mid to top levels with undo influence from the outside, then Apple can consider itself toast in the long term. There is no Steve Jobs to turn it around, and I don’t think even he could fix it if this slime is able to ooze its way into enough crevasses within the company.
Connections are everything, and Cook knows he needs more than what he has with the Obastard regime. This is all about the politics. It’s obvious because this Jackson person doesn’t have a single drop of relevant experience with a company like Apple.
The only problem that Cook hasn’t thought through, however, is Wesley Mauch doesn’t stay bought.
“First Al Gore and now this sleaze?”
You mean Al Gore wasn’t Apple teflon protection enough?
Or is global warming running out of steam?
Or more likely, Gore and Jackson will be doing Apple vaudeville road shows touting windmills and algae.
