The House Judiciary Committee opened an investigation Wednesday into whether Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. lied under oath in testimony about the Justice Departments surveillance of journalists, while the White House declared again that President Obama absolutely has confidence in Mr. Holder.
Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, Virginia Republican, and Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., Wisconsin Republican, asked Mr. Holder in a letter to explain discrepancies between his sworn testimony before the panel earlier this month and the Justice Departments decision to obtain a search warrant for the emails of James Rosen, the chief Washington correspondent for Fox News. The probe is part of a wide-ranging Justice investigation into leaks of classified government information to the media, a development that has Mr. Obama backpedaling over his support for the First Amendment.
Mr. Holders testimony in question came on May 15, when he told the committee with regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material, that is not something that I have ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be a wise policy. But Mr. Goodlatte said just days later, media reports revealed that Mr. Holder approved the search warrant in May 2010 to obtain emails belonging to Mr. Rosen.
Mr. Goodlatte told the attorney general that media reports and statements issued by the Justice Department regarding the search warrants for Mr. Rosens emails appear to be at odds with your sworn testimony before the committee.
We believe and we hope you will agree it is imperative that the committee, the Congress, and the American people be provided a full and accurate account of your involvement in and approval of these search warrants, he wrote, adding that he wants answers to his questions by June 5.

Bill Clinton proved that the rich and powerful can get away with anything.
To paraphrase Leona Helmsley: Prosecution for perjury is for the little people. (That's you and I.)
Amen, they won’t get him on perjury but I believe Holder’s days are numbered.
This is round two; round one was when Holder said the first time he heard of Fast & Furious "was just in the last few weeks" when in fact documents show he knew about it one year prior to that remark.
Watching our government transform into a Venezuelan type regime is very disheartening.
I disagree that Holder’s days are numbered.
Three reasons.
1) Obama is just basically that stubborn, obtuse, and convinced that he is above it all.
2) Just like Ron Brown in the Clinton Administration, Holder knows where all the bodies are buried. Hence it would be rather dangerous for Obama to cut him loose.
3) After this, one would have to believe that the Senate confirmation hearings for his replacement would become an absolute circus. It is doubtful that most candidates Obama would want in the role could get by a Republican filibuster now. That effort could drag on for the remainder of Obama’s term
You’re correct...Holder and Obama are birds of a feather, they both parse words, mislead and outright lie with impunity and the low info voters eat it up. Our country has changed for the worse.
Clinton screwed Monica. Obama is screwing US.
Again?! This is a red and blue team fund raising stunt. Nothing more. Put this up there with the joke of an impeachment over lying about a blow job instead of how the Chinese ended up with US missile and nuclear weapon technology...it’s set up to make noise and go nowhere. Bookmark this post and come back in a year. Holder will still be there.
Do it for Scooter Libby!
“most candidates Obama would want in the role could get by a Republican filibuster now.”
Which is why Reid is going to use “the nuclear option” to end the filibuster in confirmation hearings. They will be by majority vote, starting next month.
Oh I don’t know. The Democrat Party Operatives in the press will convince millions of gullible Americans that it’s a witch hunt by sex obsessed religious fanatics out to get him —works every time. Don’t forget: half the public has an IQ below 100.
He could get the chair!
(The comfy chair.)
And a sternly written letter from the critters: Moooooooo!
