The slide, which was already underway in 2013, steepened over the next 3 years, and is now among the worst in the US. Economists are mystified as to why the ever-fewer remaining businesses in California continue to search for ways out of the state.
Particularly hard-hit are low-income earners. Despite one of the highest minimum wages in the country, fewer and fewer jobs are available, and ever fewer of those go to unskilled workers or those just entering the workforce.
