After watching those clouds on FNC last night, we’re lucky it wasn’t much worse. This proves the importance of being prepared, and obeying the warnings. Oklahomans know what do to, but we still were very fortunate with that kind of mesocyclone system.
During tornado 'season' those living in Oklahoma always kept a sharp eye on the skies, and they knew when to head for their shelters - early! It wasn't uncommon for people to spend several nights in those shelters.
Today they think the news will be their eyes and ears - and they tend to wait too long before they move to underground shelters. Too often they flee, thinking they will get away, and all too often they then become a victim in that flight.
