All day I have been reading post after post on this subject. I am so embarrassed and disgusted by so called response. I have pulmonary fibrosis. Terminal unless transplanted. I know more about lung transplants than I ever dreamed possible. Protocol has to be followed if the procedure is to be successful. I know many people that are waiting for the call. Some have small children. Shaving adult lungs is an iffy procedure and even then it would have to be a small adult for the lungs to fit in this child. I understand her family grabbing at any straw to keep her alive. Even with a tx she is trading one disease for another.

I’m so sorry, cold water. I think the FReepers are really just mad at ObamaCare. They are angry at bureaucrats playing Gd, and they don’t understand the intricate medical decisions involved. I’m sorry for their response which is disrespectful to adults in this situation.

It’s just horrible when a child is in such danger. There are other children in danger and doctors’ hands are tied legally too. This one is getting press. It’s all sad and I pray for everyone.

I thought the girl’s doctors said she would be able to accept the transplant. That was from a quick skim of the Daily Mail article. Have to say that I don’t know enough of this issue to really have an opinion.

I appreciate your post, Coldwater. I, too suffer from the same disease as this little 10 yr old girl, Cystic Fibrosis. I have such mixed emotions on this whole subject for the same reasons you gave. Also, the board that decides the “rules” on trasplants has been in place for a long time. So in effect we already have death panels. If she gets the lungs then perhaps a 12 yr old child who IS eligible dies. Maybe she is too sick to survive the transplant with adult lungs? There are no easy answers. God bless her and her family. I don’t blame them for fighting for their precious girl.
