No. We need to be honest and not just foment bluster. Open carry would be disruptive. Whether you like it or not, some people are just not comfortable seeing people walk around armed. They will never be comfortable. The people who conceal carry will understand this.

Open carry makes YOU the instant mark, especially in a bad situation. I, for one, do not want this. I do not want bad guys to know if I’m carrying, period.

Open carry may be the law in some states, but it is not practical and would be socially disruptive.

If "comfort" is the goal - let's ban:

pants on the ground; provocatively dressed people; PDAs; profanities and suggestive images on t-shirts and clothing...

Open carry makes YOU the instant mark, especially in a bad situation.

If someone wants to commit a violent crime, is the person more likely to try to target people who are openly carrying, or wait quietly for them to leave? Some criminals will adopt the former tactic, but generally only in cases where the people who are carrying openly (e.g. security guards) aren't likely to leave. I would posit that carrying concealed makes it more likely that a criminal will commence an attack in one's presence. Having the criminal attempt his attack when there's an armed person present to stop him is less bad than having the criminal successfully time his attack so as to avoid resistance. On the other hand, having the criminal never attempt his attack could be better yet.
