Another epidemic of 'Saturday Night Fever' sweeps through the Bangkok Convention Hall Folks over 40 in their old-fashioned outfits flocked to the Bangkok Convention Hall at Central Lat Phrao last Saturday for the retro concert "Saturday Night Fever", a frantic evening of disco.
Before the show there was much reminiscing in the lobby, where everyone had their photo taken against nostalgic backdrops.
Screams and applause filled the hall once the Boogie Knights from Las Vegas came onstage with a set of old favourites such as "Get Down Tonight", "Let's Groove", "Super Freak" and "Bad Girl". It's a cover band, but handily delivered the fans back into the past in a proper party atmosphere.
The screams got louder when Burin Boonvisut joined the Knights for "Celebration" and "I Feel Good". He then left the Vegas boys to get on with "That's the Way I Like It", "Night Fever" and "YMCA".

You know who just hated, hated, hated disco?
The seventies hippies. They had a stranglehold on music and radio with terrible, awful, horrible bands like Led Zeppelin.
Disco was people who finally had enough, saying, “Um, we like to dance. All of us, boys and girls. We like to dance with each other. Like our parents did. And we’re going to dance. We’re going to dance to this music that has a BEAT and not a SHRIEKING GUITAR.”
Loser hippies who couldn’t/wouldn’t dance, or learn to dance, or just hated dancing, led the anti-disco charge. And they lost. Led Zeppelin was permanently dethroned. Disco is still around, although it’s called “Billy Jean” by Michael Jackson, or hip-hop, or house music.
Disco is music you can dance to, nothing more and nothing less.
You lost, hippies!
Great photo, now I can say ‘Long Live Disco.’
Donna Summer was smokin hot. She was also a Conservative.
“Disco is still around, although its called Billy Jean by Michael Jackson, or hip-hop, or house music.”
And it’s still just as bad.
Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Metallica, AC/DC example of A lot of music that plays into that melancholy, angsty side of youth. It was not “uplifting” in any sense except that we could identify with it at some point in our lives, but when you get past that or are just feeling content in life haven’t you ever wanted your music to just make you feel like dancin’ lol? Aside from that awkward teen stage I just found the disco/house, some pop, or motown music to be more fun, mood lifting.
I didn’t care for Led Zeppelin for the very reasons that you describe. Metallica and AC/DC are after my time. Pink Floyd is interesting background music but that’s about it.
My own tastes ran to the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Ten Years After, The Band, Traffic, Blind Faith, CSNY-
But dance music? Nope.
