The photo of a Syrian child wearing the jersey of FC Barcelona has gone viral on social media, stirring widespread outrage online at the brutality of the Syrian regime’s army.
When Ahmad Othman, 14, was killed on May 2, his photo was published by #Tweet4SyrianChild, a Twitter campaign that highlights the suffering of Syrian children.
The photo soon went viral after the Spanish daily newspaper Sport, close the FC Barcelona, republished the picture. Thousands of Barcelona fans then began sharing and commenting on Othman’s photo.
Othman was killed along with his family after Bashar al-Assad's forces shelled the town of al-Baydah near Banyas last month.
Othman’s relatives said he used to wear Barcelona’s jersey every day and never missed a match by the Spanish club, his relatives said, according to Syrian opposition media. He even dreamed of becoming a famous footballer like Lionel Messi, one Facebook page belonging to the opposition said.
Both sides are guilty of massacring civilians. So I say let them fight to the death.

Who will get the sympathy vote?
I’m certain that there’s some Christian children in Syria right now, who fear Al Qaeda rebels raidning their homes. Perhaps some of those Christian Syrian children are fans of the Barcelona soccer team too.
There are no good guys in that snake pit, but a great many victims.
This is very sad but the child is being used for propaganda just like the chem weapons story. The powers that be have already decided, like Kaddafi, that Assad must go. The media is complicit again by flooding the news stream with these stories.
After Assad is gone we will be seeing thousands of picture of dead Christians——and their children.
It will be Obama’s favorite photo album.
