Russia Outmaneuvers Obama Over Syria (by John Bolton)
WSJ ^ | June 14, 2013 | John Bolton

Posted on 06/15/2013 8:12:46 AM PDT by Innovative

President Obama's belated acknowledgment that Syria's regime has used chemical weapons effectively forced his decision on Thursday to arm the opposition. Whether Mr. Obama's U-turn alters the conflict's course is a different question. One thing seems certain: Russia's support for Bashar al-Assad remains unwavering. It should make for an interesting G-8 meeting on Monday and Tuesday in Northern Ireland.

Since Syria's civil war began, Mr. Obama has insisted, contrary to fact, that the U.S. and Russia have a common interest in resolving the crisis and stabilizing the Middle East. Secretary of State John Kerry's recent efforts to secure Russian co-sponsorship of a peace conference, at which Washington will push for Assad's ouster, reflect Mr. Obama's illusion.

The objective evidence consistently demonstrates that Russia has no interest whatever in eliminating its only remaining Arab ally. Moscow's military and financial assistance to Damascus continues undiminished... ....

While the evidence about Russia's strategic objectives may not be conclusive, the direction is ominous. And as long as America operates on the assumption that the U.S. has common interests with Russia in Syria, Lebanon, Iran or the Middle East generally, we will see Moscow's influence rise and ours decline. Even in today's Washington, that's a scandal.

Thank you, thank you, Baddog.

Ever remember getting a case of the giggles as a kid? You just couldn’t stop it. And the more an adult got onto you, the more you giggled.

I have not stopped giggling - not laughing, giggling - since I looked at that blasted pic. I have tears pouring from my eyes and my sides are hurting from laughing. I can’t seem to stop looking at it.

Thank you!!!

Mooschell’s blubber butt gets in the way of his ‘leading’, too.

This is why when we object to the communist policy they’ll shoot us first with blubber bullets.

That would be quite stinky!

Bolton is NOT the problem!

Only because he and his fellow incompetents are no longer in power. Let's hope his type of thinking soon loses all influence among conservatives.

The tragedy is that there is no intrinsic reason at this point for the US and Russia to be on opposite sides. Russia is tough and opportunistic, while we are pusillanimous and ideologically hamstrung. If we had a President instead of a Usurper, the world stage would be seeing a much different scenario played out.

“They are already gone.”

Moved back into Iraq, from whence they came? :)

I suspect totally disbursed with a large chunk into Lebanon. Israel will not go quietly. It is going to get very nasty very soon. Targets already acquired for retaliation, in my opinion.

Yup, Hezbollah now has control of those. And Israel will strike their locations,(already acquired, as you say) sooner rather than later.

When Israel is simultaneously attacked by multiple strikes from the north, chemical artillery shells included; if the West Bank settlers are overrun and slaughtered; and if Jerusalem falls, I suspect those targets will include single missile strikes on major cities and military complexes throughout the Middle East.

The world as we know it will end. Chaos will be the order of the day. Lock and load.

I believe we have contingency plans in place for just such a scenario. Oh, wait, I forgot that his Oneness is in charge and we’re making it up as we go along. I hope Valery is up to the challenge.

Interesting we all know now what the CIA is doing. I thought it was meant to be a covert agency to leverage secrecy against places like Russia?

“I believe we have contingency plans in place...”

Yes, WE, here do have contingency plans in place (Be Prepared), but my gut feeling is that Obie & Jarrett will flub this one as they have all the others. That could be a good thing.
