You should be more like that neighbor. He had the right attitude and that is why he was a winner at life. Why sit on the sidelines and complain about life and be jealous of people who are more productive than you? Life hands everyone problems, but this guy figured out how to turn a problem into a solution.

You misunderstood. He didn't have solutions to much of anything -- he just always looked at any situation and declared that his situation was automatically better than anyone else'.

Your driveway looks the same today as it did yesterday? Too bad for you -- mine collapsed! Sucks to be you!
You're visiting your mother next weekend? Too bad for you -- mine died last year! Sucks to be you!
You have a job? Too bad for you -- I got fired, now I have lots of free time! Sucks to be you!

This is not a healthy approach to reality. I appreciate the value of optimism and a positive attitude, but if your only view of life is "I'm better than you" then that is just being obnoxious.
