President Barack Obama used a television interview set to air Monday night to defend his administrations use of far-reaching surveillance programs as carefully supervised and controlled.
Obama also appeared to reject comparisons between himself and Vice President Dick Cheney, who strongly backed similar surveillance efforts in the George W. Bush administration and has defended Obamas continuation of national security-related programs similar in many respects to those pursued by the previous administration.

They both love gay marriage, hate conservatives, think the U.S. people are government property, and want to invade everywhere on earth. There is more than a passing similarity.
Well, you may not be Dick Cheney, but, you sir, are a dick.
Cross out Indonesian and put in Saudi and you have it.
Ok, buy it or not. Obama is driving the car Cheney helped build to his specs. Healthcare, everything homo, gun control, domestic spying and surveillance while being buddies with Islam.
Cheney was happy with it, and Obama continued. The difference is is speed, not philosophy or direction.
bump
Ah yes, “The Eye of Cheney”.
Gosh darn! At least during the Cold War, you had to “have a set”, “love your Country”, “Know your Enemy”, “and be prepared to walk into those dark corners of the night - and walk out, in one piece!”
Obama, as much as you try to dissuade anybody, with all your influences and power, “The Eye of Cheney” is upon you!
This single picture wraps up the disdain, the bitterness, the hatred, and the cold patience necessary, to deliver the national answer to Obama.
Let’s not forget, Cheney supported gay marriage 8 years before Obama did.
No Shiite Bath house barry.
Obama pretended to be against every WOT policy Bush-Cheney upheld even though he knew they were necessary and now the left is finally seeing his lies. This is so rich.
True...leftists hear Dick Cheney and think Lon Chaney Sr.
Conservatives need a game like that.
Cheney has been right on almost every issue for years and has been hugely instrumental in standing strong and keep us safe despite the hate he's endured.
I don't like his gay marriage stance either but I'll forgive him for not being perfect.
He'd better hope so. It's the liberals that are calling him Dick Cheney.
Obama is in the process of gutting his own mystique, in a way that the right could never do. That he even has to come out and deny that he is "Dick Cheney" is a testament to how badly his standing has suffered among the left.
Liberals give each other a very, very wide benefit of the doubt, but that laxity is not without limits. He's wandering into the territory that will get his name erased from the FDR / Kennedy tier of the Liberal pantheon, and relegated to the Carter / Mondale / Dukakis tier.
Liberals won't ever truly turn on one of their own, but they'll minimize your memory to 'well meaning failure' if they have to.
True.
But the Bush administration was also scrupulously honest and supportive of the rule of law. It's a bum rap to blame them for any 4th Amendment violations by the NSA.
By all accounts, the Bush administration requests for metadata from the telecom companies never extended beyond those calls that were to and from the U.S. and abroad. The form of their request is preserved in the FISA court order than has been published as clause (i).
There is no evidence or reliable reporting to the contrary.
It is the Obama administration that expanded their FISA requests to include all domestic calls. They edited the original FISA request to include clause (ii).
And the fact is that calls between the USA and abroad are not subject to 4th Amendment protection. For the same reason that Customs is able to rummage thru your luggage without permission when you are entering or exiting the country -- the 4th Amendment doesn't apply to cross-border shipments, travel or communications.
It is the Obama administration that is pushing the 4th Amendment envelope. It wasn't the Bush administration.
He’s been right on almost every issue for years? I guess Obama is too, since they agree on almost every issue, except Obama isn’t pro-gay marriage enough for Cheney. He just came out last week and said Obama has a right to all communications U.S. citizens make. This has nothing to do with terrorism, because they don’t want to monitor terrorist communications, they want to monitor average citizens’ communications. They didn’t use it to stop the Boston Marathon attack.Cheney and Obama could care less about that. They want to stick to the little guy, and their ‘enemies.’
And who are you again? Soebarkah, Bounel, Dunham, Obama...
“And gun control? Gimme a break,,,”
More's the pity...
Boy, this is a whole different crowd than yesterday.
Let’s hope she has incredible flatulence and indigestion as a rule. She about owns hideousness.
You bet your @ss Urkel, you are no Dick Cheney.
