Day #9 (Week 2) George Zimmerman Case – Open Discussion Thread
The Conservative Treehouse ^ | June 20, 2013 | Sundance

Posted on 06/20/2013 4:58:15 AM PDT by Uncle Chip

Today, June 20, is DAY #9 (of 2nd week) of the weighted Scheme Team + State of Florida V. George Zimmerman case. Continuing jury selection.

With 40 potential jurists selected the filtering process continues toward finding the final 6 jurists and the 4 alternates.

Yesterday the prosecution spent the majority of the day presenting it’s position(s) and asking questions. Today the defense has the opportunity to do the same, starting at 9:00am.

Also, well, “maybe”, at 2:00pm the “Frye Hearing” is set to resume with the State Prosecution recalling their expert, Tom Owen, to discuss whether the cries for help heard on the 911 call can be identified. (This has been cancelled and postponed twice before – so “maybe” is prudent this time)

[Tom Owen stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night - He's ready]

Monday the Defense expert, Dr. James L Wayman, testified from 4pm to 8:30pm – Judge Nelson is expected to rule on whether this information is presented to the jury during trial, or whether it is too confusing on the jury to have experts dispute each other.

After watching jury selection yesterday, it is clear that the prosecution is not going to play by the rules, and despite public pontifications to the contrary, wants a jury that will not base its decision on the law and the evidence, but will be given to state-sponsored misinformed speculation.

If the case was based on law and the evidence, George Zimmerman would not be on trial in the first place, in fact, he would not even been arrested. But, he is on”trial”. He will be given a Soviet era show trial, found guilty and sent to prison.

A good read:

http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/06/zimmerman-jury-selection-day-eight-wrap-up/

State’s “Questioning” Involved Relatively Few Actual Questions, Many Suggestions

Laying the Foundation for the State’s Theory of the Case?

[Silly me, I thought they were picking an impartial jury]

Anyone Ever Been Arrested: 18% Say Yes

“Anyone Been A Victim of a Crime?” 35% Yes, 10% of Violent Crime

“Is There Violent ] in Your Community?” 100% Yes

“Is It Right To Take Law Into Your Own Hands?” Jurors Say No, But Some Soon Become Uneasy

Jurors Begin to Challenge de la Rionda’s Propositions

“Neighborhood Watch Program in Your Neighborhood?” 25% Say Yes, but Not Personally Involved

“Any Experience in Fighting Sports, Advanced Cell Phone Skills?”

“Got Any Guns?” 30% Own Guns Themselves, Another 30% Know Family/Friends Do

As a closing note, it struck this observer as remarkable how large a proportion of the day involved de la Rionda speaking, rather than any of the prospective jurors. His speech was often long, somewhat rambling, and ultimately appeared to be an effort at conditioning the prospective jurors to a particular judgmental and emotional position–for example, participating in Neighborhood Watch is somehow similar to taking the law into your own hands..................

Reference juror H 35: What in the hell is “Social Anxiety”?
is that something like the “ I am just trying to find myself” excuse that men and women gave a few years back when they abamdoned their family, children, and other responsibilites and to be dope smoking hippies? Or could it be that they are expecting the law enforcement officer to come knocking on their door in referrence to some violation of the law they did? Sounds like total bullshit to me, but then again I am a dinosaur.

Yeah, I'm a dino too ... 7 year old cell phone. My sons can't understand why I don't have a $400 smartphone and a $100/month data plan.
Heck, I'm so dino, I can remember when my car payments were under $100 month.
To your question - my guess is the young female juror has been brought up with so many electronic devices in her face, she doesn't know how to act when "confronted" with live people in real situations.

Yeah and gas was $.30 a gallon for high test. Bread was .20 a loaf. I boughta 1968 Camero new in 1968. The payments were 35 dollars and some change a month. A furnished apartment was 35 dollars a week. At the local restaurants a cheeseburger all the way, an order of fries and a small drink was 52 cents. The only problem was those dollars were hard to come by.

We're supposedly in the worst recession since the Depression, yet how many young kids today (say, 18-29 years old) have $500 iPhones (and iPads) and $150+ monthly data plans?
These are same kids who are whining about their college loan debt too.

And a really good wage was a whopping $1.50 an hour, no ATMs and banks were only open a few hours a day, no Internet so leftist journalists controlled the news, etc etc.

Spare me the sentimentality. There are no time machines, all we got is the here & now.

This is the second day that some of these jurors have been running late. Somebody needs to clue these jurors in on the fact that this railroad will run on time. It has a schedule to keep.

I can remember gas under .20 cents a gal, which was lucky for me, driving a Oldsmobile rocket that got about 7 mpg on the highway!
