Television chef Paula Deen, who lost her gig Friday with the Food Network after admitting and apologizing for having used racial epithets, including the “N-word,” is a supporter of President Barack Obama, campaigning on his behalf in 2008 and cultivating a friendship with first lady Michelle Obama.

Though Deen allegedly called Obama the “N-word” in front of her employees, according to a lawsuit, the Southern-bred television personality actually campaigned with Obama in 2008, invited Michelle Obama onto one of her television programs, and praised the first lady’s healthy eating agenda. …

“By Paula’s own admission, she dated a married man for years before marrying her present husband.”

I saw this mentioned on another message board, as well. Did any details ever emerge?

“cultivating a friendship with first lady Michelle Obama.”

I can’t help it I think its kind of ironic. Actually hysterical. The angry black woman’s cracka radar must have been on the fritz. :-)

To me, Deen’s ouster is nothing less than a “Niemöller moment”. They successfully came for her. Gives me pause to consider “securing the perimeter” of my social and professional interactions.
To be sure Food Network/Cooking Channel are now defunct entertainment choices. They join a variety of DIY home shows produced (Canadian?) with a view to be “socially aware” in contrived presentation of couples debating design options or paint/fabric swatches.
And for the record, I’m not a fan of Deen nor her sons. In a manner somewhat similar to “acquired” English in the UK, her accent has become more evident in relation to her success. Thankfully good sense prevailed and her husband has only made cameo appearances. Crikey, talk about nepotism!
Sadly her departure means my question of the age will remain unanswered; “how” does she cook with more jewelry on her hand than the corner hock shop?

Reminds me of this:

Marge Schott’s comments on ESPN about Hitler
New York, NY, May 6, 1996...The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said today that Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott’s comments that Hitler was good when he came into power “are profoundly ignorant and offensive,” and called on Major League Baseball to take “appropriate corrective action to protect the sport’s image.”

Marge Schott was Banned From Managing 1996-1998 for her Nazi comments.

I’m not aiming any special virtue; I was responding to a claim that everyone uses the term. As a matter of personal practice, would you refer to all women with the “C” word? I don’t use that term either. It’s not that hard to be civil.

I agree with you, although I’m years younger. You’re about the same age of my mom. It’s not ok to use. It doesn’t matter if rappers and some black people use the word. It’s not right when they use it either, but it’s different. The meaning is different as they aren’t using it in a racist manner. For an example, two women who are friends may refer to each other as “bitches”, but while it’s wrong, it’s different than if some guy came up to them on the street and began calling them bitches.

It is perfectly okay for them to call each other the N word. Use it in their music etc ect. But let someone else do the same and it is a capital offense!

My grandmother in Atlanta, back in the 50s, always refereed to them as “nigra”, and with no disrespect intended.
Growing up in Memphis back in the 50s, the signs referenced them as “colored”. Our yard keeper was a colored man.
Our maid was a colored woman.

I have been in public schools for a number of years; the dreaded “N” word is used as often as is the article “the”. This self righteous indignation over the use of the dreaded “N” word is applied only to Caucasians, while predominately black students, rappers and black comedians can drop that bomb without hesitation or consequence. I'm surprised that Michelle or or the “one” did not jump to her defense since she supported both. They must have a $100,000,000 reasons in Africa not to lend their support! Just another limousine liberal played and used by the king and queen of the United States. She just got burned; maybe she can put some buttah on that! I guess O ain't her “N” after-all!

It is a double standard and since Paula Deen, a loyal BHO supporter, went against the rules of The Party, The Party tossed her under the bus. I'm not a fan of Bill Maher but he is right on one thing where he said that "why do people have to go away if they used a certain word." Also, I like what Lt. Uhura said in Star Trek, "in the 23rd Century, we learned not to fear words."

We also have a double standard, if Paula Deen was a rapper and used the word, she would be applauded at best, nothing said at worst. I think this double standard has bred more racism and/or animosity along with the election itself. My mother feels the animosity and so do I. A lot of people do. I think overall, we were on the right track at race relations until LBJ's War of Poverty on one hand, the political correctness and double standard on the other plus the elections of 2008 and 2012 did not help either. They create people to be bitter toward them.

I got into a discussion on Facebook (OK, when will I learn, I know, spare the "I told you so's") and I got jumped on a like a gang of Messerschmidts on a B-17. There is no reasoning it seem, people are either brainwashed and/or have an axe to grind, there is no getting through to them. I get so tired of it where if I'm accused of being a racist, I just said, "yeah I am" and move on. I just get on with my life, I have more problems now than I can shake a stick at.

99% of the total population don't refer to women as "#unts" but 95% of the black population refer to each other as niggas, there is a big difference in the two and I know you are smart enough to see it.

The use of the word nigger is permitted if one is black but not if you are white; I call BS on that.

Being black gives no one any special preference, regardless of what the PC police say.

If you want to call BS on that, go to 125 st in NYC. And do it. I often refer to myself as a stiff-necked Mick. I’m allowed, non-Irish aren’t. I’m sure you’re smart enough to see that.

You're not a stiff-necked Mick, you are a privileged, sanctimonious dork. What the hell gives you the right to use any word and not allow anyone else the same right.

If you mean that you will get very mad and hit me with your purse, that's your problem.

And if you think I'd go to harlem under any circumstances, you are a stiff brained Mick.

I'm a Dago, my grandparents were from Sicily, and one of my uncles was more Tony Soprano than gandolfini ever was, and if a Mick calls me a Dago, it's only a word, no big deal.
