Wife and I are looking into retiring there in the next year or so.

Having looked into it, I would not do that unless one of you speaks fluent Spanish.

After speaking to the many expats that live there, we are told only minimal spanish is needed to get by. Wifes spanish is a little rusty but I am sure it will all come back to her in a short period.
