Zimmerman Trial Day 2 – Analysis of State’s Witnesses (BONUS: hilarious tweets of Prosecution woes)

Today can only be characterized as an utter debacle for the prosecution in Florida v. Zimmerman. Besides the testimony of a couple of highly professional law enforcement witnesses, the testimony of the the other State witnesses ranged from signing George Zimmerman’s praises, to acknowledging the utility of following a suspicious person from a distance, to being utterly discredited by razor sharp cross-examination of the defense.

- snip -

...it hardly seems that a half-dozen recordings of Zimmerman calmly phoning the police precisely as he had been instructed by them can much advance their charges of second degree murder.

- snip -

The next, shall we say, interesting witness called by the State, and the last witness of the day, was Selene Bahadoor. She was one of the residents of Twin Lakes whose townhouse bordered on the scene of the altercation between Zimmerman and Martin, and who took note of the event as it happened. As such, she was really the first substantive witness to date who would, purportedly, be able to share some direct knowledge of the events as they unfolded.

O’Mara handled the cross-examination of Bahadoor, and it was very quickly apparent that this person who had promised to be the State’s star witness of the day–and perhaps of the entire trial–was about to be have her testimony and credibility utterly, indeed humiliatingly, crushed before the jury.

O’Mara then asked if it would be fair to say that Bahadoor had sympathy for the Martin family. “I have sympathy for both families,” she answered, somewhat aloof.

“But,” noted O’Mara, “you “liked” the Facebook page for the Martin family, but not the Facebook page for the Zimmerman family.”

The prosecution are idiots for bringing in the previous 45 times Rodriguez phoned in a suspicious character WITHOUT anything ever happening. What makes this time different? This makes it look like it has more to do with Trayvon than George.

I wouldn’t be so sure. The defense is easily winning on facts, but that’s not what this trial is about.

CNN earlier was going on and on about the emooooooooootional impact of the prosecution’s case, and fearfully, I think that’s what the case will come down to.

The defense can win every single point of evidence and still lose. The jury consists of 6 women. Nine times of out of ten, they’ll fall down on the side of emotion over logic.

Listening to the cross-examination of Bahadoor by O’Mara.

Lots of silence and absolutely nothing to help prosecution.

I’m feeling good.

Hopefully another day or two of this will deflate a good number of the TM supporters.

The rest of the MSM's coverage today is also very biased.

Her response style was so obviously over-coached and unnaturally mechanical that I couldn’t even watch it all. Every response was the same: She would take somewhere between 1.5 and 2.0 seconds to drop her head to the microphone, always answer “Yes, that is correct”, pause another 0.5 seconds, look at the jury, and slowly back away from the microphone. That went on for an hour.
****************************************************************
Yes, that is correct.

OK, I didn’t watch the video. Maybe she’s just bored, then.

OK, I didn’t watch the video, and I seem to be getting two different views: She was a very professional witness, or she was unnaturally mechanical. I must say, I find your view of it a bit more persuasive.

I can’t stand sitting for hours and watching TV, so I rely on the willingness of Freepers to sit through this stuff and report on it.

So, when are they going to pop in the eyewitness who saw zim hit st. tray on the back of the head to render him unconcious then prop him up on top of him, flail his arms with muppet like sticks, then at his leisure shoot st. tray in the heart. Isn’t that what they would like us to believe?

Au contraire...the witness for the prosecution this afternoon lied like the proverbial rug.

O'Mara played her like a violin, then dropped a grand piano on her devious little head.

Her couple hours of fame were over with and she departed the stand forever mired in ignomy.

Selene Bahadoor - she got PW3ND!

To me, this whole 2nd degree murder theory falls apart long before the shot was fired. Zimmerman was on the phone to the police, they knew who he was, and he was giving them a description of Martin. By what logic does the prosecution operate in thinking that Zimmerman was "stalking" Martin? Who calls the police while they are in the act of stalking someone? Good grief!

The witness for the prosecution got body slammed before the whole dammed world! And maybe this doesn’t count for much, but the jury is all female, and I suspect they had harsh private thoughts about her. She may have damaged the prosecution’s case beyond repair!

She was coached to answer the question as tersely as possible and to not volunteer any info. Her husband is a Sanford cop btw.

When O Mera was demolishing the last witness on cross, DelaRonda looked like he was sweating a tad.

Corey was recently elected but I suspect she packed her bags, we know she loaded up her pension but that is another story, and is ready to not run next time.

That’s what i hear- I hoep for george’s sake he tears the prosecution a new one and everyoen inviovled i nthis miscarriage of justice- hopefulyl he sues the woman who brought the false trumped up charges agaisnt him in the first palce, and causes her to lose her liscence to practice-

The worry I have though is that george ‘apparently’ lied abotu splaying martin’s arms out- not sure how Mark is goign to handle that one-

This trial has my guts in knots-

Something about her facial expression. I’d say that she looks like a retard, if that weren’t so very politically incorrect.

There are some beautiful girls who are less smart than an average girl. Simple math tells us that there must be a corresponding number of homely girls who are smarter than average :-) Barring some serious genetic damage, the appearance and the intellect are unrelated; the probability of being both beautiful (pb) and smart (ps) is then pb × ps.

There is more to it than mere statistics. Good looking girls have an opportunity to work in glamorous fields - performing, presenting, acting, modeling, gold-digging, to name a few. You are not very likely to find them in the job of a crime scene tech who sometimes has to comb an acre of land with a magnifying glass, in rain. We saw how they worked in Boston. Regular girls have to work for a living, and this job is better than many other (like at a poultry processing plant, for example, unless you are a professional chicken hater.)

Remember, Zimmerman’s father was a judge, magistrate judge I believe. He would certainly know how to find the best lawyer around. From all I’ve ever heard of O’Mara, and is becoming evident now, he did.

[[Who calls the police while they are in the act of stalking someone? Good grief!]]

Excellent point- Just makes no sense at all that george would call to describe the boy he was supposedly just abotu to shoot out of spite/racism- but of course hte defense will likely coutner argue that george was feelign guilty abotu what he was ‘about to do’ and so called in advance to cofness in a roundabout way-

Thati s their only hope- to claim he was subconsciously preconfessing- Hopefulyl Omara really drives htis point home to hte jury that george woudl not possibly have called to describe the person he was abotu to shoot out of pure racism - then brign up the fact that george liked helpuing black kids, not harmign htem-
