Yeah, that always made me wonder, too. He went to the store to satisfy an urge for Skittles and ice tea. So why not go straight back to the residence he started from, in order to enjoy the stuff. He wasn't sipping his ice tea and munching Skittles in the rain. He was wandering around close to homes that were previously targetted by a burglar, in the rain.
