Live Thread: Egypt Revolution 2.0

The Egyptian army has set a deadline of 4 p.m. Cairo time for the Muslim Brotherhood government of President Morsi to compromise with the people of Egypt (by stepping down.) Morsi refuses. 18 people were killed and 200 were wounded in clashes at Cairo University last night.

A Washington Post report from Cairo on dueling statements from Morsi and the army:

Waving his hands and shaking his fists in a 45-minute speech on national television late Tuesday, Morsi swore that he was committed to the democratic process that brought him to power and said that any attempts to subvert the constitution were “unacceptable.”

The army, in turn, posted a message to its Facebook page saying: “We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool.”

In his speech, Morsi acknowledged that he had made mistakes during his year in office as Egypt’s first democratically elected president. But he appealed to Egyptians to give him more time to deal with the country’s problems.

MB is like a lizard that keeps regrowing its tail. To get rid of it one must remove its head. Not sure Mosi is the true head !

Like al-Quada, the true head is the group of money men who supply the financing. Most are in Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar, etc.

The Egyptians will tell Obama to eff off. They don’t care about his veiled threats and are more than happy to turn to China or Russia.

Russia would just love a warm-water naval base in Egypt. Port Said, just off the Suez Canal, is underutilized at the moment.

Nasser, Sadat and Mubarak tried to get rid of the Muslim Brotherhood. Only Morsi succeeded.

Under Morsi, the MB came out into the open. A lot of people now know who their members are. It makes it much easier now to eradicate them.

FoxNews on-scene reporter: The Muslim Brotherhood are shocked and surprised that they are no longer in power.

Doh!

[In related news, McCain and Graham are demanding that the US send troops to put down the massive number of rioters who are protesting by setting off dangerous fireworks. Hillary Clinton had, so far, declined comment on the situation in Egypt, as she scowers the Internet for the video that instigated this uprising. /s]

Chief Justice Mansour Sworn is as interim President of Egypt

Al Jezeera]

Al Jezeera

Chief justice Adly Mansour takes oath hours after democratically elected Mohamed Morsi overthrown by military.

Top judge Mansour has been sworn in as Egypt interim president, hours after Mohamed Morsi was overthrown in a military coup following huge protests against his one-year rule.

Adly Mansour took the oath of interim president on Thursday, as his democratically elected predecessor, Mohamed Morsi, was held in an unspecified military barracks along with senior aides.

Before the constitutional court, Mansour said: "I swear by God to uphold the Republican system and respect the constitution and law... and safeguard the people and protect the nation."

"The revolutionaries of Egypt are everywhere and we salute them all, those who prove to the world that they are strong enough, the brave youth of Egypt, who were the leaders of this revolution."

Separately, Mansour was made head of the supreme constitutional court - a position he was due to take on June 30, when protests against Morsi's one year in power began in earnest.

Morsi was overthrown by the military on Wednesday. According to a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood, Morsi was being held in a military facility with top aides.

"Morsi and the entire presidential team are under house arrest in the Presidential Republican Guards Club," Gehad El-Haddad, the son of a top Morsi aide, told AFP news agency on Thursday. Haddad's father, Essam El-Haddad, widely seen as Morsi's

Less than an hour after Mansour was sworn in, Egyptian prosecutors issued arrest warrants for the Brotherhood's top leader, Mohamed Badie, and his deputy, Khairat el-Shater, judicial and army sources told Reuters news agency.

Shater was the group's first choice candidate to run in last year's presidential election. He was disqualified from the race due to past convictions. Hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood officials were also reported to have been arrested, with many senior leaders being held in the Torah prison in Cairo - the same prison holding Hosni Mubarak, who was himself deposed in the 2011 revolution.

BRUSSELS--The European Union signaled late Wednesday it recognized the new authorities in Egypt following the military's ousting of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, with the bloc's foreign policy chief calling for presidential and parliamentary elections to be called soon.

In a statement, Catherine Ashton urged "all sides to rapidly return to the democratic process, including the holding of free and fair presidential and parliamentary elections and the approval of a constitution."

Thank you for the wonderful pictures.

About this picture, the guy on the right is flipping 0b0z0 the bird the Egyptian way! It’s normally done with the middle finger but not as we do it, rather, a flat raised hand vertically with one of the middle finger(s) pointed at the person! Hehehehe

Any MSM around? Nope, can’t have this!

They need to get a dictionary and see what a coup is...this was NOT...the people had this already coming together long before they marched.

It was said about the American Revolution, that the true revolution happened first in people's hearts and minds, and then took physical expression.

I’m sorry, I wrote #728 and corrected it in #731

I’ll start from the beginning:

A similar Tamarod (rebellion) is slated to start the coming Sunday IN TUNISIA!!

Last I heard yesterday that Tunisian rebels, following the Egyptian blueprint started collecting signatures against their MB rule. They collected 176,000 signatures in less than 3 hours!

Keep in mind that Egypt is much larger than Tunisia.

So, keep an eye on Tunisia starting Friday or Saturday if what happened in Egypt is an indicator.

“Hopefully there will be significantly fewer MB by morning.”

Yes, back to their holes they go, especially after their leader (the Guide” whose office was in the infamous Mokattam was burned and where 4 Hamas snipers were arrested 3 days ago.

The Guide was running the country through Morsi. This is not unlike Valerie Jarrett, our “communist Guide,) giving the orders.

Here are some statements from the man arrested;

Statements on the West[edit]

In a weekly sermon, titled “How Islam Confronts the Oppression and Tyranny [against the Muslims],” Mohammed Badie accused the Arab and Muslim regimes of avoiding confrontation with “the Zionist entity” and the United States, and also of disregarding “Allah’s commandment to wage jihad for His sake with [their] money and [their] lives, so that Allah’s word will reign supreme and the infidels’ word will be inferior.” Badie stated that the U.S. is immoral and doomed to collapse. He accused the Palestinian Authority of “selling out” the Palestinian cause, adding that a third intifada was about to erupt. Badie also stated that “Resistance is the only solution against the Zio-American arrogance and tyranny, and all we need is for the Arab and Muslim peoples to stand behind it and support it.” [5][6][7]
In July 2012, during his weekly sermon, Mohammed Badi stated that Israelis are “rapists” of Jerusalem, and called on all Muslims to “wage jihad with their money and their selves to free al-Quds.” He described the creation of Israel in international law as an “alleged, illusory right.”[6][8][9]
In October 2012, Badie alleged that “The Jews have dominated the land, spread corruption on earth, spilled the blood of believers and in their actions profaned holy places, including their own.” As such, he demanded that the Arab world reject negotiations with Israel in favor of “holy Jihad,” saying that “the Zionists only understand force” and while alleging that allowing Jews to pray on the Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest site, would result in the destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.[9]
Statements on Operation Pillar of Defense[edit]

Badei denounced peace efforts with Israel, urging holy war to liberate Palestinian territories, on Thursday, November 22, 2012—just a day after Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi succeeded in brokering a truce to end eight days of Israel-Hamas fighting. Badei says “jihad is obligatory” for Muslims and that peace deals with Israel are a “game of grand deception.” He says there’s been enough negotiations, the “enemy knows nothing but language of force.”[10]
