KABUL, Afghanistan Senior Republican Sen. John McCain arrived in Kabul Thursday for a surprise visit to American troops in Afghanistan to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday.
McCain presided over a reenlistment ceremony for about a half dozen U.S. soldiers in Kabul.
A member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and unsuccessful presidential candidate, McCain was accompanied on the visit by Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham.
Both of the senior U.S. lawmakers commented upon their arrival on the military-led political transition which was playing out in Egypt, urging the nation's new interim leadership to quickly hold new elections and hand power back to a democratically elected government.
"We view with great concern events in Egypt," said McCain. He acknowledged the "great dissatisfaction" in the Egyptian populace for how Morsi was governing, but said the U.S. wanted the military "to show us a rapid transition back to democracy," and suggested future U.S. financial aid to Egypt would be dependent on the speed of that transition.

These two butt-boys in Afghanistan. I have to give them credit for going, but they probably didn't want to stay home and face incessant questioning about amnesty either.
I realize Lindsay isn’t married (or at least publicly) but McCain doesn’t seem to enjoy spending much time with his wealthy wife. From what I can tell he spends more time with Graham. Makes one wonder.
Moving targets ARE hard to hit.
McCain probably thinks its safer to be in Afghanistan than Arizona nowadays.
Now that McCain has helped Obama and the democrats get the USA squared away he is ready to spread his wisdom around the world.
It's an even greater misfortune that those who vote for him are.
How sweet. John and Lyndsey use “diplomacy” as an excuse to get away together to see the pyramids. What next - a trip to Venice to ride the gondola and gaze into each others eyes?
Why are they posing with a cook?
With better luck, he took Meghan “Megaton” McCain with him and the Taliban will capture her, put her in a full face burkha, and won’t give her back.
Please taliban... keep this pos.
Hey McCain!
Stop by Egypt on your way home. Walk around, get your picture taken and then let us really know what it is all about.
Have your daughter join you on your Egypt tour.
Nothing brings a family together anymore than a tour in the desert.
Couldn't the organ grinder for the left leave his pet monkey at home?
Karzai better watch out
4 years ago these two fools were shaking hands and posing with Qadaffi
These two clowns are NOT Bob Hope and Bing Crosby “On the Road” to Kabul, are they?
Its funny the military managed to only whip up about a half dozen “volunteers” for this senile aZZwipe to reenlist
BACK TO DEMOCRACY? ? ? You’ve forgotten what the word means!
How about returning this country BACK to the Republic you and yours have perverted.
“With better luck, he took Meghan Megaton McCain with him and the Taliban will capture her, put her in a full face burkha, and wont give her back.
Not a chance. They’ll run out of food and cloth.
Democracy with no legal framework of individual rights is tyranny. A democratically elected Islamic regime that institutes Sharia, is a tyranny. Democracy, in and of itself, is the rule of the mob.
Karzai asked Miss Lindsey if he wanted a skirt too.
Maybe we can get the U.S. Armed Forces to follow Egypt’s lead, to give us back our stolen Republic.
