These jurors won’t be able to pull a Nelson and just announce their decision.

They will have to give reasons for their decision and if the reason that they give is that they are afraid of riots then they will be dismissed and the alternate appointed because they are required to consider only that evidence presented in court — and fear of rioting was not presented in the court.

AFAIK, no juror can be questioned as to why they reached the particular conclusion that they come to.
