Currently just Tweets and locals talking about this, nothing on news sites yet. Lots of stuff in the Twitter feed, including links to uploaded videos of the smoking mess.

I heard 2 witnesses to the landing/crash say the “cartwheel” word, too. That conjures-up some very nasty images. Judging from the wings’ condition, it didn’t actually “cartwheel”.

“Cornel West (Harvard) who recently stated “Obama cares more about Gays....then he does about his own Black folk”!!!

I hadn’t heard that one. Very funny. The Brothers are getting annoyed at The One.

It always ticks me off when they allow certain people to stay in the exit rows. My husband and I are 6’1” and in good shape, with good hearing and ability to understand English. We could get those doors open and help others out. So, when we flew and were in those rows, I felt okay. But not when the stewardesses would ask people who were elderly, short-of-hearing, no English comprehension, too young, disabled, or something else if they understood the instructions and all she’d get was a blank stare (until she made people repeat after her). Sorry, but in this case, safety should come first and not being PC.

And, when not in the exit row, I tried to have a flashlight with me, and imagine everything being filled with smoke, upside-down, etc.

FoxNews - 291 on board.

KTVU Live said that the plane tail section hit a retainer wall at the end of the runway. That ripped off a section as the plane continued to slide down the runway.

“NTSB news conference from DC coming up -— how soon before we get the pic of Obama in the sit room?”

Per CNN he is being briefed and will be working with local officials to help. This means someone told him on the golf course and he will be heading to bed soon and no one is to disturb him until morning. Soon after a Video will surface that will be blamed for the crash.

“clipped the seawall”

Just heard about the crash. I burst into tears for some reason. KCRA reported a little while ago that the plane was teetering as it was coming in, ten people with critcal injuries (burns).

KTVU Live is getting most of their information from Twitter and similar social websites. Those websites are giving more information than ‘officials’ are giving.

Tweets started within 3 minutes of the crash by one or more persons on board during the crash.

“Margaret” on Fox News saying left engine was ripped-off, bounced and exploded in flames, in island away from plane. She was in another plane watching... TV footage hasn’t shown that missing piece yet.

I am a B-777 pilot, based at SFO, a trained and experienced aircraft accident investigator, and I teach Crew Resource Manangement (CRM). I flew our plane into SFO last Wednesday. I am not involved in the investigation, but I have just looked at the crash site. I've flown into a great number of the airports involved in aircraft hull losses in the last 20 years. I am extremely familiar with the history of asian crews, particularly Korean crews, who defer the the Captain, mitigating all benefits of CRM, and resulting in a pilot caused crash. How about you?

“. It is likely the Asian attempted to use the (inop) ILS and hit well short of the intended touchdown point.”

It is unlikely, not likely. Too much communications about approach for that to happen.

I respect your opinion....but as someone that has been servicing these aircraft for a long, long time I remain suspect. I shall wait for the report from Boeing & the Asiana flight crew and on-board flight attendants briefings. I might add that that separated engine would barely have any fuel in it internally when the airplane crashed. There is no way that separated engine caused the massive fire damage in the aircraft cabin. For goodness sakes the top of the fuselage was blown off, possibly by an explosion in the center fuel tank caused by the hard landing...or something else. The resulting investigation will tell us if the center fuel tank ruptured from the hard landing. Too many questions right now, and no good answers forthcoming to draw any conclusion just yet.

Airbus auto and requires the pilot to go to idle thrust, or it will not land.

"If I were you folks, I would wait..."

Oh, really?? Nothing to see here folks, move along now??

It is normal to speculate on damned near everything, including sunrise (I'll take the over on that one).

FR is not a court of law, discussing it here does not affect any investigation, suit, trial, inquest, tribunal, prosecution, court martial, or general cussing out.

There is nothing suspect about a post-crash fire. For you to suggest otherwise is to engage in the same activity you are warning against (not that there is anything wrong with that).

As to crew and passengers having valuable verbal input...yeah some will. But many others might as well be describing what happens when you hit a wasp nest with a bat...you won't learn much but it will be entertaining as hell.

Cartwheels, I have no idea..I assume if that happened the death toll would be considerably higher..I think the most logical scenario is what the woman said her father conveyed to her, the pilot screwed up..he went too low and tried picking up the plane, the tail hit the runway causing it to crash and catch fire

And thank God for it. One always feels such a jolt when hearing about an airliner accident.

NTSB conference was plain vanilla - what they are going to do. 3 west coast investigators heading there now to “nail down the scene.” DC team hasn’t left yet, still assembling.
