Zimmerman prosecution's case marked by several highlights
The Orlando Sentinel ^ | July 6, 2013 | Rene Stutzman and Jeff Weiner

Posted on 07/07/2013 6:27:42 AM PDT by Uncle Chip

In the nine days the state spent laying out its second-degree-murder case against George Zimmerman at his trial, prosecutors questioned 36 witnesses and submitted 200 items of evidence......

Though it's unclear whether Zimmerman will testify, jurors have already seen and heard from him in audio and videotaped interviews he made in the days and months after he shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Prosecutors contend those statements will help prove his guilt.

Here are some of the highlights of the prosecution's case:

A half-dozen police officers testified. Two Sanford officers stood out: lead investigator Chris Serino and Tim Smith, the first officer on the scene.

Both described Zimmerman as cooperative and compliant.

The state got one of its biggest boosts of the trial Tuesday when Serino testified that two of Zimmerman's words to a dispatcher moments before the shooting — "[expletive] punks" — showed that he had ill will toward Trayvon.

That is one of the key elements that prosecutors must prove for a second-degree-murder conviction: that the defendant acted with a depraved mind, hatred, evil intent or ill will.

Serino testified that he doubted some details of Zimmerman's account but that he could find no solid evidence to dispute it. Zimmerman gave four recorded statements to police, including a video walk-through the day after the shooting.

Smith arrived within moments of the shooting, handcuffed Zimmerman and seized his 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, which he had placed back in a waist holster.

Smith testified that the back of Zimmerman's jacket and pants was wet, and the back of his jacket had grass clippings on it. He also saw blood coming from Zimmerman's nose and from cuts to the back of his head.

"He stated to me that he was yelling for help but nobody came to help him," Smith said................

The media insanity of equivalency is on display. One witness to them is equivalent to another even though one is shown to be prefabricating and the other telling what they recall.

Sorry bunch of bastards is what the entire prosecution organization , in my opinion, is.

Friday’s marching orders are to highlight “the clash of the mothers!” (”the jury will have to make that decision themselves”, blah blah) and ignore the difference between the “brother”’s initial uncertainty and the uncle’s certain knowledge from another room.

Prosecutors say it all adds up to a man with a gun who had become increasingly frustrated and decided to take the law into his own hands.

If increased frustration with people results in killing, there'd be a trail of bodies leading to me.

It’s not insanity. It’s ill will. They’re proving *they* have ill will toward George.

Have you seen any indications of how long the defense will take for their side of the story?

I’m sure the prosecution was sweating hollow points when Sybrina said inadvertently under direct on the stand that Trayvon is in heaven.

Obviously she must have been referring to his aspiration to be an astronaut, airline pilot, or hot air balloon operator but that comment may very well open the door to his past history of school suspensions et al coming into evidence.

Interesting how the Orlando Sentinel arranged that article.

Hyperbole and brain washing on the first two pages (intentionally spread out to make it as long as possible) and then the actual facts on the third page (which those who read the first two and are happy with their ‘conclusions’ don’t bother reading).

The media keep wanting him to put on a few witnesses and then rest, but my guess is that he will so bombard the court with credible witnesses that the prosecutors won’t be able to keep up and will be spinning like tops. His client has waited a long time and O’Mara/West are going to go all out. It is now game on —

Zimmerman Prosecutor Criminally Indicted By Grand Jury For Allegedly Falsifying Arrest Warrant

No better illustration of the travesty of this bogus trial than this.

Seems to me if the SPD, the school Officials, and the (loosely worded) parents had been doing their job, Trayvon would still be alive.

Where was Sybrina Fulton that night ?

Where was Tracy Martin that night ?

I have been blessed with following the trial AND your threads day by day...with much appreciation.

In seeing the obvious innocence of GZ as the trial unfolds and then the media slant during and afterwards, it seems to me, in my opinion only, that this is designed solely to instigate riots by our purple lipped prince in office.

Anyone just following the news believe GZ will be found guilty. The prosecution has nothing....absolutely nothing. Those paying attention and watching/reading here know this will not be a guilty finding. Those not paying attention will be astonished.

He will be found not guilty and the kenyan is hoping for riots. He needs riots to up his game to the net level. The LSM is just doing their part as usual.

Again, that's just my humble opinion.

There is so much “ill will, spite, and hatred” directed at Zimmerman by this prosecution team that should any violence occur after this to anybody that this prosecution team should be held responsible.

Their anger is the same as Martin’s that night — he’s just not going down like he is supposed to.

I am not sure I agree with you that the Heaven comment was inadvertent.

Everything she said was carefully measured and very much coached.

Here is one law professors take on the evidence

http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/evidenceprof/2013/05/section-90404of-the-florida-statutes-generally-precludes-parties-from-presenting-propensity-character-evidence-such-as-evid.html

Her Heaven comment was a scripted way to imply her boy was a good boy...but in reality ..many religions believe you can still go to heaven even after murdering someone if you do something or believe something etc....

Don’t think Nelson will allow anything based on that Heaven comment

But if MOM puts dad on the stand and the dad let’s something slip...then maybe

All he needs is for someone to make some kind of reputation comment. Maybe Diamond Eugene would be a good person for that...since you might be able to trip her up..BUT she is more clever than most think.

West was setting her up on something - cant remember what it was..and she knowingly sidestepped it

A “citizens grand jury” certainly is a travesty.

Remember the maxim, “Never let a crisis go to waste.”

If GZ is innocent, there WILL be riots. And if GZ is convicted, there will STILL be riots.

And the result will be used as political and social leverage by the Leftists, certain as the sun rises.

Will there be riots if it is a hung jury???

The prosecution has managed tto keep Zimmerman’s parents out of the courtroom again for a time, but their ploy forgot about his uncle. Zim’s mom and uncle are black enough in their racial mixture that keeping either of them in the jury’s line of site pretty thoroughly destroys the meme that Zimmerman has a simmering pot of race hatred.

I am hoping we see a whole lot more of the good Command Sargeant Major sitting by his nephew.
