I believe you can boil this all down to three things:

1) Standards of conduct are no longer enforced by society. Inclusiveness has led to a race to the lowest common denominator.

2) Wisdom is no longer revered, mockery is (see Proverbs).

3) Critical thinking skills are no longer taught in school or at home.
