Rubio Is Losing Support Among Republican Voters
NY Times ^ | 7/9/10 | MICAH COHEN

Until recently, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida had occupied something of a sweet spot in Republican politics: a favorite of the Tea Party but also trusted by the establishment wing of the G.O.P.

Mr. Rubio’s embrace of comprehensive immigration reform, however, appears to have upset that delicate balance, and his support has slipped among the Republican base. The mention of his name drew boos at an anti-immigration reform Tea Party rally on Capitol Hill in mid-June, and recent public opinion surveys, taken amid the debate on immigration legislation, found his favorability rating falling and his standing in 2016 Republican primary matchups eroding.

Only two surveys, one by ABC News and The Washington Post and one by Rasmussen Reports, have tested Mr. Rubio’s popularity since the Senate reached the final stages of passing a comprehensive immigration reform bill. Both measured double-digit drops in his net favorability rating among Republicans.

Kristol opposes the immigration bill (he doesn't think we need ANY immigration bill) and publicly asked Rubio to back out of it.

Rubio was duped bigtime....Dumbo Rubio never even figured out the Dems plan....Everybody saw through the scam but him....

I think you're giving Rubio far more credit than he deserves here, Liz, and providing him with an escape hatch from this disaster.

In my opinion, the man straight out lied to good and trusting people to get himself elected, then promptly settled in with his real friends, the vermin on the left.

No one tricked Marco Rubio into betraying us and everything he claimed he stood for. He did that willingly, and all by himself.

Yes, the NY Times certainly must be pleased with this.

But it’s also just as well that Rubio has been shown for what he is. A lot of Freepers wanted him as their candidate for POTUS last time around. I didn’t trust him.

Better to get rid of him now than to see him rise to a position to REALLY betray us.

Rubio was duped bigtime

No he was not. And every single person who reads the forums here at Free Republic was okay with this Amnesty crap before he was elected.

No exceptions.

How dare I say that?

Because he was all for amnesty in his speeches to LaRaza and other groups like them during his campain. He said one thing to one group, a different thing to another, and the people who supported him were either okay with it because they don't care one way or another, or they were okay with that because they held some foolish notion that a man who had to be by deffinition lying to one of the groups must surely pick their side to be telling the truth to.

Have a well deserved "I told you so."

You are exactly right.

And, thing is he could have come out of that whole immigration deal as a hero to conservatives ....he could have called out McCain, Graham and Schumer as being nothing but corrupt amnesty thugs and he could have just repeated the border has to be secured first, period, or nothing else happens ...would have been really simple and nothing would have endeared him to conservatives like going against McCain and Graham...but, he’s stupid and a liar and can kiss my ass and that goes for that worthless lump of nothing Paul Ryan too

FR rules prevent me from posting my response to the RNC yesterday to an e-mail informing me of a chance to have lunch with that liar Rubio.

” What good will the pork that the GOPe must have promised do him, if he loses his seat in the next election—as I hope he does.”

I have posted several times that we should watch how wealthy Rubio and Ryan become over the next few years. It isn’t about politics, or pork. It’s about BIG money.

Ha, I got the same email. Replied back that I’d prefer not to be entered as I was no longer supporting Rubio over the immigration support he gave. I also removed my name from the mailing list. I guess re-registering voting preference is next.

” Amazingly, Rubio stupidly hitched his prez wagon to conservative-hating neocons-—Rove, Kristol-—and even hired a pukeneo for his prez campaign team. “

Not to worry. Even if Rubio DID hitch his can to PUKENEOS, and goes down in flames, his fall back is big money payoffs
Same with Ryan.

“Rubio has convinced me that I am no longer a Republican voter.”

Lots of Republicans are doing this. John Podhoretz’s anti-Southern rants on Twitter today reminded me that big-city “conservatives” often look at the people in “flyover country” the same way that liberals do.
