Among whites, single-mother families are more than six times more likely to be poor than married-couple families. The ratio is also high among African-Americans, Asian-Americans (four times more likely), and Hispanics (more than twice as likely).
POVERTY RATES FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN, BY MOTHERS MARITAL STATUS
Source: U.S. Census Bureau, Current Population Survey, 2012.
Obviously sexism at play here.
Unexpected!
Duh!!!!
Did somebody actually have to do a study to figure this out?
And I suppose, also, you’ll try to tell me that their kids tend to do worse in school and get into trouble/crime more often?
But the upside to Democrats is that this increases dependency on the government, and thus, advances socialism. Win-win for them.
NYT: “ Women & Minorities Hardest Hit! ‘
To your average liberal, it’s a “Eureka!” moment.
That’s what 9 of 10 liberals just said.
Yup, and we’d better sue the Census Bureau for having the temerity to report these odious facts.
I know what a liberal would say about the scourge of single mothers -
“it’s because men are irresponsible”
and
“that’s why we have to have welfare programs”
In other news, water is still wet. Ice is still cold.
If this were an AP story, it would say “unexpected” in the headline.
Poverty rates are higher among single-mother families, regardless of race

On a more serious note - this is why we need DOMA. This is why we need a traditional definition of marriage and why the FedGov needs to promote healthy marriage initiatives, instead of actively seeking to DESTORY the American family.
But nope. Since LBJ and the Great Society programs - libtards have figured out the secret to maintaing a leftist stronghold on America. And the key ingredient to that secret is single mother families on welfare.
Every time I see one of the typical sob stories in our local paper about some poor single mom working hard to make ends meet, I am always amazed that nobody asks her any questions. Where is dad (or dads) and why isn’t he paying child support? If the mom has teens, why aren’t they working at least part-time, and if not, why not? And the question that should be asked, but never is, why did you have children you knew you could not afford to raise?
No, we are not allowed to ask such questions. We are just expected to shell out $ in taxes and donations to raise other people’s children, no matter how irresponsible they are.
LOL
I didn’t bother to respond to my census inquisition.
