Did you consider the possibility the woman was lying? Happens a lot in those cases.

I considered the possibility the woman was lying; it wasn't a rape, there was no physical evidence and no witnesses other than the victim. I concluded the victim wasn't lying, in part because I think she would have made up WORSE abuse then simply being fondled where she was if she was making it up.
We found out after the verdict was read that the perp had met the grandmother of the victim while he was in prison (he was in prison for molesting a little girl on a playground - we were told he was in prison but not what for). The grandmother and a sister had testified for the defense, amazingly (really ugly family situation, victim's mother was in prison for bank robbery. I concluded the victim seemed like the only sane person in the entire family.)
No appeal because the perp, an older man, dropped dead of a heart attack the next day. This was in Caroline County Maryland in the 2000s, can't remember the exact date.
