Conservatives think the law is unraveling. But implementing the Affordable Care Act is going to be a huge success.
Having failed to beat the Affordable Care Act in Congress, in the courts, or at the ballot box last November, conservative opponents have one last chance to beat it on the field of reality. Republicans see the delayed implementation of the laws poorly designed employer responsibility provisions as a sign that the law is fundamentally unworkable and will unravel, as long as conservatives keep up the fight. The White House, not surprisingly, disagrees. At a briefing I attended last week, senior administration officials painted an upbeat view of the implementation process and expressed eagerness to shift the focus off the political controversy and onto how the law will have concrete impacts on citizens lives.
In the short term, I doubt theyll get their wish. Putting something as big as Obamacare into practice is bound to hit snags. Between conservatives keen to exaggerate problems......

It is Matthew Yglesias, what do you expect.
“But implementing the Affordable Care Act is going to be a huge success.”
It sure is - provided only that we define “success” as utterly destroying the quality of health care in America.
I do not yet see a GOP alternative.
Sure be critical of the Obama plan, but there is no GOP alternative.
Until there is a GOP alternative, please find something else to criticize Obama about.
Obama is absolutely full of things to criticize.
Healthcare isn’t one, on balance.
Just saying.
Wow, talk about being delusional!
Thanks.
Glancing at the plan, it seems to be just what we had? Basically.
Obama screwed things up, but he also fixed some things. Healthcare in the USA is the most expensive on the entire planet, far and away.
We need it to cover everyone. Period.
That is the thing. Until the GOP presents a healthcare plan which includes something for the millions and millions of Americans off the grid, while America exports jobs to every country in the world, then the GOP’s got nothing.
I just don’t see where the GOP has an alternative.
Present an alternative.
What we had, is not an option.
(just by .02)
Apparently you did not read it. People would buy their own plan and be able to keep. The cost would be lower since people would be able to buy it across Statelines, which is not what we have today.
And here I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to keep my insurance and doctor and that insurance rates were going up.
Repeal..repeal..repeal. Let the FREE MARKET forces go to work across state lines!
Per your link, the GOP alternative appears to be "a resolution instructing House committees to develop legislation ".
That seems a little short on details.
You’re right I did not read it in detail, I just glanced at the summary.
Can you please point to anything which presents a healthcare plan option to everyone?
I am not trying to fight you on this, but to be honest the GOP seems to simply be positioning themselves.
What is the GOP plan to cover all Americans?
Healthcare is not something to criticize about Obama? You have to be crazy. Obamacare is THE landmark legislation of his term and it is complete disaster, and very unpopular on all fronts. Even the unions are turning against it.
“.. we define success as utterly destroying the quality of health care in America....”
DING!!!!
Take the time read it all this will answer your question.
Govt. healthcare already existed, nobody went without. The indigent went into hospitals and the costs were born by others. Same for illegals. ACA is just a govt. grab of part of the money moving through the system.
Oh, and enjoy the IRS keeping all your medical info too.
What is the GOP’s plan to provide some basic level of healthcare to all Americans?
That seems like a simple question.
Healthcare is a possibly very disruptive expense. We went years and years, with a spotty system which left millions of Americans out in the cold.
Now American businesses are exporting American business. Leaving ever more Americans outside the system.
All I am saying (but this is a very, very big deal) is where is coverage for everyone?
Seems simple. Provide a plan with what you want, and with what we all need.
Provide a plan for all Americans.
Seems simple.
I didn’t realize the governments’ job was to supply health insurance to all Americans. I missed that clause of the constitution.
There are countless plans out there to reform our messed up health care system. It starts with Medicaid and Medicare repair, both of which are completely skewing the system for the rest of us. Government is heavily entrenched in healthcare and needs to fix what they’ve screwed up, but in no uncertain terms does the government have the responsibility to cover every individual. What they need to do is undo the damage done so that individuals can afford their own plans without the heavy hand of government setting driving costs up. Every American can afford a low cost catastrophic plan if they chose to buy one, but that is no longer an option. For a small section of the very poor, states can provide Medicaid or other options to help those who truly cannot help themselves.
Not unless they think that it will be repealed. obamacare is working as it was designed.
Well that is where we disagree.
Medicine in a protected industry. The government is already involved in so many ways.
It needs to cover everyone.
That is what I am saying. Whatever plan we support, has to cover everyone.
Period.
Now I’ll try to disengage from this thread. I really don’t want to just yell at people.
But cover everyone. Please.
Or no deal.
