Fox News analyst: NBC News ‘on the hook’ in Zimmerman lawsuit
Washington Post ^ | July 17, 2013 | Erik Wemple

Lis Wiehl, a Fox News analyst, said, “That’s absolutely not enough. NBC is on the hook here for a big defamation, intentional infliction with emotional stress lawsuit here. They doctored that tape. It went out there. It started the whole narrative of Zimmerman being this hardened racist, this profiling racist that started everything.”
.
.
Accordingly, NBC will have to pay out a “countless amount of money and probably millions of dollars,” argued Wiehl. All agreed that it would cost big bucks for NBC to make this case go away. That sounds about right.

In another article, NBC expected Zimmerman trial to hinge on race, NBC's reply to the lawsuit last Dec included:

As the State’s Affidavit of Probable Cause confirms, it is highly likely that the Special Prosecutor intends to present evidence to the jury tending to show that Zimmerman acted with a racial animus in killing Martin. Indeed, the Affidavit asserts that Martin “was profiled by Zimmerman” and “was unarmed and was not committing a crime”…see also id. Ex. 3 (investigative report regarding previous calls by Zimmerman to police that “reported suspicious persons, all young Black males”). In short, there is every reason to believe that the State will attempt to obtain a conviction relying in significant part on the notion that Zimmerman acted with a malice motivated by race.

Oooops....

Of course the judge assigned to this case could make it more interesting than it should be:

Case Number: 2012CA006178
Judge: DEBRA S. NELSON
Date Filed: 12/06/2012
Case Type: OTHER-LIBEL/SLANDER
Plantiffs: ZIMMERMAN GEORGE
Defendants: ALLEN RON,BURNSIDE JEFF,LUCIANO LILIA RODRIGUEZ,NBC UNIVERSAL MEDIA L L C

Maybe it will become more Fair and Balanced once George owns it.

It always cracks me up when people say Zimmerman profiled Martin, as if it was a bad thing. “Profiling” is normal. Zimmerman DID profile him. He profiled him because of the way he was acting. Cops “profile” drunk drivers before they pull them over.

Not only is profiling not bad, but even racial profiling has a place. As one journalist who did ride-alongs with cops in chigago’s south side said, if you see white guys driving around there, it is almost guaranteed they are up to no good.

And then George can enjoy the beach with a certain guy with a red swingline stapler for the rest of his life. He’ll probably blend in better, too.

George Zimmerman's lawyer for the civil suit:

Jim Beasley, Jr. M.D., J.D., LL.M., FCLM

Jim’s results exceed $200 million in awards for his clients, in a variety of complex matters. Thus far in his career, Jim has been voted as one of the Best Lawyers in America, a top 100 Pennsylvania Super Lawyer since 2006, and one of the top 75 plaintiffs’ attorneys in the United States.

That does sound right. If you set out to defame someone, this reads like a textbook on how to do it. Comcasts lawyers will move quickly to settle of course, but I hope GZ keeps them dangling for a year or two. It will be “bad for bidness” and that’s the only kind of pain NBC and it’s owners will actually care about.

Hey NBC, pinning somebody to the ground and beating their head into a concrete sidewalk IS AGAINST THE LAW. GZ had every right to use deadly force to defend himself. Those are the facts and all the race baiting, riot inciting and hand wringing will not change those facts. NBC CNN CBS and ABC better get their checkbooks out because it is about time to pay up for your actions.

I like how it's pretty much a given that GZ is going to sue their asses off and win

Even the libtards are admitting they doctored the tape to make GZ look bad, and that pretty much got the ball rolling for everything else

It is about time a libtard organization paid the price for deliberate character assassination

But remember- as late as 5-10 years ago (without FOX news and conservative talk) the ONLY story we would have heard was “He's up to something, he looks black” and none of the other evidence

Based on Miss Jeantel's appearance on CNN, it appears that Trayvon may have profiled GZ as an "ass-cracker".

I also wonder if NBC & co. are also pressuring Holder to pursue the federal case (racial motive), in which case GZ’s civil action would have to be put on the back burner again.

Eric Holder is going to go after that chunk of cash with his civil rights lawsuit.

I think you are right about that. NBC is now Comcast, a very corrupt Philadelphia company with deep, deep ties to the Philly Democrat Machine.

I wonder if you need to prove actual damages in order to get punitive damages in Florida. I’m guessing you don’t. Sock it to them!
