I live in Kalifornia so I can't legally CC a firearm, but I do at times. OTOH, Kalifornia has some very liberal knife laws with the exception of LA, SF and Oakland. I almost always carry a Cold Steel 4" Voyager Vaquero folding knife. Lightweight (4.5 oz.), great balance, great ergonomics and grip and not to mention the infallible Tri-Ad lock. This knife feels like it was made for my hand and feels like an extension of my hand/arm. I can rapidly deploy the blade via inertia opening or with the thumb-stud assist. While it's not a firearm, it's the next best thing and it can be used in a non-lethal manner. When I carry a firearm, I also carry my folding knife as well.

California is a "may issue" state and your ability to get a permit depends greatly on where you live. My local authority treats it as a "shall issue" matter.
