Principles: John McCain says he'd have a hard time deciding between Hillary Clinton and Rand Paul in 2016. Which begs the question: Is the GOP's one-time presidential nominee and titular head truly a Republican?
On occasion, and those occasions seem to be more frequent these days, we're grateful McCain didn't win the White House in 2008. That is until we remember who his opponent was.
But McCain, greeted with applause from Democrats Wednesday when, according to TheHill.com, he "mistakenly strolled into President Obama's meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol," was a poor choice to represent the party of less government against Sen. Obama.
The media have designated McCain as a maverick who will buck his party when it gets out of line. They've promoted him as the conscience of a GOP that has become "extreme" which is their way of saying it's no longer the party that surrenders to Democrat efforts to expand the federal leviathan so easily.
Liberal columnist Dana Milbank called him on these pages " the most important legislator in a generation."
McCain has accepted the role with great relish. (His campaign plane was once named Maverick One.) Apparently he needs the media's love to feed his ego. And if that means siding with Democrats and opposing the convictions of his own party, well, that's just the way it is.
Saying it would "be a tough choice" for president to pick between Rep. Rand Paul and Hillary Clinton is just the latest example of how McCain has betrayed his party and those who have voted for him because they thought he would represent their desire to limit government and increase liberty.

To the headline: who the hell knows?
Because it guarantees a Dim will hold the seat!
So that a Democrat (him or his opposition) will win, obviously.
[/semi-sarc]
Because he’s most helpful to his party (Democrat) that way.
However the GOP sure doesn’t seem to have any compunction about cutting off funds to conservatives they want to get rid of.
LOL — 17 Seconds!
I think he does it to antagonize Republican voters.
Absolutely...So he can undermine conservatives.
It could be that McCain is able to fool the people in Arizona over and over again.
He gets away with it because he presents himself as pro-military, and pro-life. That’s enough to fool way too many Republicans.
Simple. He can do more damage as a “Republican.” And has.
Because it works. They have Identified that the GOP in Arizona want to be lied to their faces and mocked.
So he does that, they love it, and he gets re-elected.
He wants to be Hillary’s running mate, so he can throw a monkey wrench into any candidacy by Sarah Palin.
Hopefully, Hillary is dumb enough to ask him to be her running mate.
Because he knows that it doesn’t matter. Both parties are the almost the same and he’s one of the reasons why.
Nothing makes any sense anymore.
This country and maybe the whole world has gone crazy. Our nation has been taken over by the most radical Blacks and they were put there by radical Whites.
Nothing in the media is seen as it really is but is maybe 95% various types of propaganda.
Radical communists are now respected journalists while Russia seems to be turning to Christianity.
Satanism seems only a tiny step from becoming openly accepted. People are seriously accepting of clear infanticide.
Homosexuality which would have once been accepted by less than 10% of the population is now completely taking over.
Our nation is beginning to be more insane than ancient Rome under Nero or Caligula.
Because he can’t get elected as a liberal, due to where he is from. So election time he says “Build the dang fence”.
I heard everyone running against him was worse. How that is possible I cannot fathom.
