My wife is a very polite person. But also very determined when she makes up her mind. She will let any person speak their piece, but when her mind is made up, her mind is made up. As soon as the witless young interviewee pulled out her cell phone, her job prospects were shot. As it should have been. If she had immediately turned off the phone and apologized, she maybe would have gotten a second chance. She compounded her stupidity by answering and gabbing for several minutes. Unbelievable.
Polite to a fault, I’d say. You’re a lucky guy. As I’ve aged, I won’t suffer fools any more. I would have stood up, said “This interview is over. Thank you for your time.” and escorted her to the HR office.
