Yeah. He was neither a dark horse or a flash in the pan but a designed candidate, tailor made for the American Idol electorate. That’s the difference.

It all started with selecting him for the keynote address at the 2004 rat convention when he was just a lowly Senate nominee. And he gave that speech full of platitudes that sounded really impressive to people with the political IQ of a grapefruit.

There is only 1 rule and this is the only rule you need to know:

RUN ONLY IF YOU KNOW YOU CAN SAVE OUR COUNTRY.

RE AlexW:

"...Every freedom loving American, however, should bone up on expiating. It is not a disgrace to leave when a country is going down the tubes and taken over by Marxist..."

Sorry, that's not an option.

AlexW, I don't know you or your situation. I don't know what you've seen in yourlife, what you've done, where you've been. I'm basing this reply solely on your post about expatriating.

Not a disgrace???

One thing I DO know is this: It most certainly IS a disgrace to let your country - a country that afforded you the ability to do, to be, to succeed at, anything you desired - be overtaken by Marxists without lifting a finger to stop it.

Edward Everett Hale said "I am Only One. I can't do everything, but I can do one thing. And the one thing I can do, I should do."

Fighting for your rights - the right to be left the f*** alone - IS the one thing you should do. Whatever it takes. Whether it's just simple civil disobediance or outright "Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of war" time.

I have dead relatives who gave their lives to STOP one brand of Socialism from conquering the world. My late Airborne father had lots of little tiny holes punched into him in a place called the Ardennes - holes made by National Socialist steel from Krupp, and a nice, long red gash made by a 7.92mm Mauser bullet adding insult to injury that he received while laying there bleeding. Evidently, some Scharfschutzen landser decided Dad wasn't bleeding enough.

He could have "expiated". He could have said "F*ck it. Screw this! I'm outta here".

But he didn't. Neither did several million other Americans.

My Dad's brothers and his cousins were in the Pacific, fighting those funky little bastard Sons of Nippon. Two cousins didn't come home; one was 19, one was 22.

No sir, running away is not an option.

You say "Another civil war won't change it". Maybe not. But I'll do whatever small, little part God has ordained for me, and I'll stand beside - or crouch in a fighting hole alongside - ANY American who decides that somethings ARE worth dying for.

Because this - THIS place of ours - IS worth it.

Go to Arlington and tell THOSE gentlemen buried about expatriating.

Go to the Vietnam Memorial and tell THOSE gentlemen buried there about expatriating.

Go to the cemetary overlooking Omaha beach in Normandy and tell THOSE kids - all those American kids - who died on that horrible day - about expatriating.

Go to any Island in the Pacific - Tarawa, Peleliu, Iwo, Saipan, Okinawa - and all of the kids who died on those miserable pieces of rock - tell them about expatriating.

Or Korea..or Vietnam... or Falujah...or anywhere else in Iraq or Afghanistan right now.

Go to Dover AFB and stand there as the metal caskets come back from overseas and ask those kids...sons, and fathers, brothers - and now daughters and sisters.... about expatriation.

Ask THEM if they think it's a disgrace to run away.

Every single American man buried in those places would, if given the chance, have rather lived out their lives to their natural conclusions, rather than be murdered in the name of whatever form of Socialist Utopia was in vogue at the moment. But they didn't expiate. They ran TO the sound of the guns. Were they terrified? Yes, undoubtedly. Would they rather have been anywhere else? Surely. But they stayed and fought, and died.

No sir. Runing away? Not an option.

If my One Shot For Liberty is what it takes, and in return my only compensation before I leave the Earth is knowing that there's one less Bolshevik POS because of me, then it was worth it.

There IS nowhere else to go. There's no American Fleet sailing over the horizon, no Airborne drop coming in with supplies, no 1st Air Cavalry to the rescue, because WE'RE IT.

THIS is my Home. This is MY Country. And those miserable communist pieces of garbage can't have it for free.

You say "America's fate is written in the wind". ALL of our fates are. But what we DO with the time we have while we're here is what matters.

This country didn't "just happen"; it happened because people stood up, pointed guns, and pulled triggers, and shot dead those who they perceived were taking their freedom and liberty away. They used the time God gave them to effect a change in their lives - and in the lives of their posterity.

We're facing something monstrous right now, true. They did too. They face the weight of the entire British Empire at it's height. And they didn't run away for eight, long bloody years.

So, no. Expatriation is not for me. I can't pretend to understand what is in your mind or heart, and your decisions are your own.

But I for one "Was BORN an American, I LIVE as an American, and I will DIE as an American, and I will do those things incumbent upon me in that character, regardless of the personal consequences."

There's Freepers out here who walked the walk, "saw the elephant", and put their lives on the live in Nam, Korea, the Middle East, and a hundred places with ridiculous names, fighting to KEEP those other folks out of here. SOme of these folks have left limbs behind, left pieces of their hearts and their minds behind them, and will remember and relive all they've seen every day and night for the rest of their lives...

Tell them about "expatriating". And then ask them if it's a disgrace or not.

No. Running away is not an option.

Peleliu.....my dad got shot up real badly there. He was lucky..... he was one of the few in his outfit who lived.

I agree, running away is not an option, unless it’s a short term move to avoid imminent arrest and detention by a police state.

The Pacific episodes on Peleliu are among the most intense TV ever

“...short term move to avoid imminent arrest and detention ...”

That’s just tactical and sound. Fight another day, at a place of your time and choosing.

This guy’s post was about just up and leaving - running away - and I just saw red.

I’m pretty worked up right now. Sorry.

Peleliu was a horror.

All of it was.

My Uncle Joe, Dad’s oldest brother, got wounded badly on Okinawa. Made 7 amphibious landings in the Pacific, not a scratch, and he got messed up there, south of Naha. Jeep hit a mine or a buried artillery shell, him, the driver, and his captain went flying; Jeep pinned him to the ground, broke his hips and legs, and a Japanese patrol bayonetted him in the throat.

And he lived...

And he sure as HELL didn’t expatriate...

Yep. You don’t hear much about it, but it was a bloody battle. Many good men died there.

“..one tough dude...”

He was one VERY LUCKY dude.

And yeah, he was a hardass. A good man, though.

Got a picture of him in the hospital stateside; lying on a gurney all bandaged up and in a body cast, a pretty young nurse from Georgia holding his hand. And he’s got a giant stogie sticking out of his face, laying there all f*** up and grinning.

That nurse became my Aunt Jackie (Jacqueline). It’s a frigging Hollywood love story from the 40s.

_________________________________________________________
You do not seem to know the difference in a foreign war and a civil war. This is not a world war. America is not being invaded, other then by some wetbacks, and Obumbo is all for that.
The Marxist are no longer what use to be the Soviet Union.

Tell me what YOU are doing to stop the Marxist, which happen to be your own fellow citizens. I know the answer. You are not doing squat, simply because there is NOTHING you can do about it, but castigate those of us that live free and independent lives, and because you feel miserable under Obozo. America fought one civil war. How did that go? Are you willing to start another?
As a senior citizen, I will enjoy my retirement exploring other lands in this world. There is absolutely NOTHING that I can do to save you from your fellow citizens.

You “dogs in a manger” should stick to worrying about your own life, rather then castigating us that are enjoying our years of retirement.

“...As a senior citizen, I will enjoy my retirement exploring other lands in this world...”

You’re able to do so because better people gave their lives so that there would be a place where you could be a success - and be able to afford to run away.

“...You “dogs in a manger” should stick to worrying about your own life, rather then castigating us that are enjoying our years of retirement...”

Your comment started it.

And it is and always will be disgraceful to run away. Cowards do that.

Live out your life wherever you ran away to, and when you wake up each day remember that someone else who didn’t wake up gave you that chance.

And that person didn’t run away.

I’ve said my piece to you, and I’m done with it. Enjoy yourself.

I do feel your pain, but try to contain your anger for those of us that live a free and independent retirement.
I did my civic service with CAP and Civil Defense activities, as well as run my own business. I was a civic minded as anyone.
I respect and envy the greatness of America, but that has passed. I do not, however, see any obligation to live my senior years under a Communist tyrant and his minions that ELECTED him.
By the way, you never said what YOU are doing to fight the tyranny, besides spewing hatred for the freedom lovers.
You might try thinking outside the box, instead of spewing
your hate for those of us that do. Do you castigate the many other Expat FReepers?
