SALON: Sorry, conservatives, Obama didn’t gaffe on Leno
SALON ^ | 08/09/2013 | ALEX SEITZ-WALD

Posted on 08/10/2013 11:32:26 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

SNIP SNIP

The narrative here would seem to be that Obama is dumb and doesn’t even know basic geography. But no one really believes that and even Obama’s most ardent critics have never questioned his intelligence. Instead of the hapless dunce in the mold of liberals’ anti-Bush caricatures, conservatives see Obama as a conniving radical. Or an out-of-touch, former law professor, ivory tower elitist. Either way, not dumb. Ted Cruz said today that he modeled his campaign after Obama’s because it was so smart and effective.

Meanwhile, “downplaying the threat of terrorism” is plainly not a gaffe — it’s an assessment of the world that is different from how conservatives would see it. On the Olympics, Obama said, “if Russia wants to uphold the Olympic spirit, then every judgment should be made on the track, or in the swimming pool, or on the balance beam.” As Newsbusters nails him: “The track and field events, swimming competitions and gymnastics all take place during the summer games. Sochi, Russia is the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics.” BOOM! Nailed him.

More troubling is that Obama said Putin “headed up the KGB.” It’s a common misconception, but in fact the Russian president only rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring from the spy agency to enter politics. That maybe suggests a lack of a specific bit of knowledge vaguely relevant to an important foreign policy issue, but it’s still not really a political gaffe.

As Tommy Christopher writes, “Another reason that gaffes don’t stick to this president is that, fair or not, they don’t fit an established narrative for him. When John McCain refers to ‘Czechoslovakia,’ it’s funny because he’s old, and when Sarah Palin says North Korea is our ally, it’s funny because of her overbearing jingoism and perceived dimness.

It became apparent that he is a retart when he had teleprompters set up at an elementary school.
Even Snopes, Obama’s apologist butt-trumpet, must admit this as fact.
They attempt a ‘save’ by pointing out that he did attempt to fly without a net in talking to the a6th graders. But he needed the TOTUS too, speaking at a grammar school.
He’s a ‘tard. They know he’s a ‘tard, and he makes their job of carrying water for the dhimmicrats even more difficult.

Whenever someone tells me how smart the Won is, I reply, yes, he is smart for a D student.

They then say, he isn’t a D student, to which I reply, prove it.

...is it not just as easy for them to retort to you, since you mentioned the actual grade, that the onus of proof should be on you, not them...?

...how do you advance a logical argument with a point you know nothing about...?

—— . They need to be honest caretakers who recognize that their job is not to remake, reform, or ‘transform’ America, but to preserve the Constitution and the institutions that allow us to determine our own fate.——

Amen. That’s what made Coolidge great. Although at this point, we need a president who will transform us back into a constitutional republic.

And Solon lies yet again. I believe he is dumber then a stump.

I agree, he is very dimwitted and he only seems to be educated in Marxism.

“57 states? Yeah, he’s a genius”

I remember when he got mad at the Republicans at some meeting and said that they were trying to make him call his own bluff. His own bluff? Probably had no time to play poker at Columbia to learn about who calls whose bluffs.

Listen to him hemming and hawing when he is without his teleprompter.

Or how about during the debate when Obozo claimed that businesses receive tax deduction for taking a plant overseas. I loved Romney’s response: “Listen, I’ve been in business for 25 years. I have no idea what you’re talking about. I maybe need to get a new accountant.” Obozo and his minions never proved Romney wrong, b/c they couldn’t.

The list is very long. Yet a lot of people with eyes and ears can’t see or hear.

Oh my goodness! This article is hilarious! I can’t believe anyone would think they would even need to write such a thing. Talk about thin-skinned.

The problem is that none of these are really gaffes. A political gaffe, in the classic sense as coined by columnist Michael Kinsley, “is when a politician tells the truth — some obvious truth he isn’t supposed to say.”

But when Bush is president, anything slightly off is a gaffe.

Allow me to summarize:

Whatever erroneous statements Obama has made are not important errors.

Obama is stupid.

Maybe not stupid, but certainly not as smart as he thinks he is.

AA is what got him where he is, not his intelligence.

Sure, but he's also pretty typical of some White people who coast from prep school to the Ivy League and into law firms or college and foundation positions.

From the article:

But no one really believes that and even Obama’s most ardent critics have never questioned his intelligence. Instead of the hapless dunce in the mold of liberals’ anti-Bush caricatures, conservatives see Obama as a conniving radical. Or an out-of-touch, former law professor, ivory tower elitist. Either way, not dumb.

It's silly to think that opponents (or supporters of politicians) have one universal and fixed image of their political love or hate objects. The prevailing images fasten on something about the politician, but usually have as much to say about the critics (or fans) and where they're coming from.

From the "Austrian language" gaffe on, it was pretty clear that Obama, like many members of his generation in high positions didn't have much grasp of geography or history. That didn't necessarily mean he was stupid, but he wasn't as educated as his fans thought he was. Obama had the polished surface of an Ivy League graduate, but he never struck me as independent-minded or a deep thinker or especially reflective.

The left excels at recognizing the need to defend the FIRST AFFIRMATIVE ACTION president. THE FOREIGNER doesn’t know the U.S. geography because he’s not from the U.S.. Ask him about Indonesia. That’s where he studied geography.

He was raised and influenced by marxists and that is how he thinks. How did America elect a person who doesn’t know how many states we have and what cities are located on the Gulf Coast? And listen to him without his teleprompter. He is stupid. He was elected because of the color of his skin. If he was white, he’d be unemployed.
