Edward Snowden is a patriot

Does President Barack Obama think we’re stupid?

That’s the only conclusion possible after watching Friday’s bravura performance in which the president announced a set of proposals meant to bring more transparency to the National Security Agency — and claimed he would have done it anyway, even if Edward Snowden had never decided to leak thousands of highly sensitive documents to The Guardian’s Glenn Greenwald.

But even as he grudgingly admitted that the timing, at least, of his suggestions was a consequence of Snowden’s actions, the president declared, “I don’t think Mr. Snowden was a patriot.” When you look at what has changed over the past two months, though, it’s hard not to wonder, “What could be more patriotic than what Snowden did?”

First, the results: More than a dozen bills have already been introduced to put a stop to the NSA’s mass phone record collection program and to overhaul the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, which has reinterpreted the Fourth Amendment in secret, creating a body of privacy law that the public has never read. A half-dozen new privacy lawsuits have been filed against the NSA. The Pentagon is undergoing an unprecedented secrecy audit. U.S. officials have been caught deceiving or lying to Congress. The list goes on.

We know that some terrorist actions have been thwarted by these surveillance...daaa! Not all terrorist can operate by courier. So I don’t feel threatened if they hear some of my conversations...I love good banter, but there is nothing that I speak of that is illegal. So I am sorry that it’s necessary, but I am far more concerned about the next several thousands of innocents that will be murdered someday. I think you guys are barking up the wrong tree. Obviously Snowden has done damage and his motives have not been grand, otherwise he never would have taken refuge in communist nations.

Agree. He sacrificed himself with nothing to gain, has no ideology against the USA, and was trying to help Americans understand how it of control and fascist our government has become. He did this for us.

“No, he’s a traitor. Courage? Running like a coward is courage? If he thinks he is right then stay and fight. Running to China and Russia....please. I’m glad he told the American people that they are being illegally spied on, but sharing all that intel to the enemy is inexcusable.”

FYI: Edward Snowden is NO traitor. He has not told ANY true military secrets. No designs of advanced arms, no data on ship or sub locations or movements, no info on troop movements and preparatiosn, no secret codes, etc. He DID say the the USA is SPYING on everyone in the WORLD! He went to China and Russia because he could NOT speak from the USA. Did you not read of the other 3 whistle-blowers BEFORE him? One went to his official superiors. NOTHING happenned. One went to the Congress. NOTHING happenned! One went to the US Media. NOTHNG happenned! ALL THREE have endorsed Snowden, and say he did the only thing he COULD have done, to open up the TRUTH!

I know you look at yourself as a patriot, but your attitude is that of the complacent little comrade who just might even snitch on his neighbor.

not really...I see my self as a humble servant of God. And I see you judging me...snitch...oh please, give me a break. You really don’t get what I was saying at all. Right now, it is a fact that some terrorist plots have been stopped by listening into cell phone data...fact. So it has become a necessary evil for now. Not the same as coming to your home to do a search and seizure, so don’t even bother to compare them.

You have absolutely no way of knowing any of this. It just sits in your mind to make this coward look a little less evil. A simple little note to Drudge would have served the purpose of disclosure without running to Russia.

I must repeat: He went to China and Russia because he could NOT speak from the USA.

You’re right Man. He is a hero and I wish the entire country was full of men just like him. I know I would feel safer. In fact I would love to meet the guy someday, alone of course.
