Charles Blow’s Brave New World (NY Times columnist thinks Palin's death panels a good idea)
Commentary Magazine ^ | August 8, 2013 | Bethany Mandel

Posted on 08/12/2013 5:49:05 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

When Sarah Palin first warned about death panels and ObamaCare, the president and his allies were quick to laugh. Sending grandma off to an icy, watery grave was the stuff of Inuit legends, never the intention of liberals fighting to pass a law that could and would have serious implications for America’s senior citizens, despite the AARP’s inexplicable endorsement. Reading Charles Blow’s column in the New York Times yesterday, however, one can appreciate the origins of Palin’s concerns. Considering progressives’ descriptions of children as burdens, not blessings, it’s understandable that they would feel similarly about another “useless” subsection of our society: the elderly.

Blow’s column focuses on the burdens that an aging population places on society. These elderly are burdens, apparently, because they are beyond “what we currently conceive as working-age,” and because disease “ravages the mind and body.” This betrays a fundamental difference between how liberals and conservatives view a person’s role in society. Conservatives see them for what they are: individuals. Liberals see these individuals as part of a larger group, judging their value on how usefully they serve the collective. To a conservative, does it matter that an elderly member of society cannot work or be totally_self-sufficient? Of course not. These individuals are important no matter what their perceived financial contributions (or burdens) may be. We love grandma not because she may give good presents and writes nice birthday checks, but because she is a valued member of the family and of the community. She’s important not because of what she can and does give us materially, but because of who she is and what she means to us.

Blow expresses concern for the future of the entitlement system, given the likelihood that the current structure is due to collapse under the top-heavy weight of an aging_population......

Speaking as an Actuary, Charles Blow is exactly right. There will be enormous costs as life spans increase. I don’t agree with many of Blow’s columns, but he’s right on the money with this one. He shouldn’t be criticized for facing simple reality.

Liberals see these individuals as part of a larger group, judging their value on how usefully they serve the collective.

In other words, Liberals want to "help" God decide when it is time to go. The entire liberal agenda is nothing more than idolatry; liberals displace God by supporting abortion, same sex marriage, death panels, and by interfering in every aspect of one's life.

Do liberals know that they are creating chaos? Satan loves chaos! Centralized government has a 100% failure rate!

People make a big mistake arguing issues with liberals. Liberals care nothing of issues - they care about obedience to the group. Liberals laugh at non-liberals because they see any interest other than group obedience and loyalty as, literally, stupid.

That’s why liberals are literally the end of the human race. All of human culture, spirituality, ethics, philosophy, knowledge, religion, science, logic, and anything else, is lower than dogshit to a liberal. Obedience to the group, to a liberal, is existence itself - literally nothing else matters.

The creation of liberals was not done by God - it was done by satanic forces offering protection, support, wealth and pleasure to human beings who voluntarily surrender their humanity. In that, it is an easily understandable issue.

The horror is the vast number of people who have chosen it, and the vast percentage of the human race they represent.

And remember, not all liberals call themselves liberals.

I don't think anyone is arguing that the costs will be significant. I think the question is what to do about it. Is the value of a person solely defined by how much labor or money they can contribute to "society"?
If that is true, then those very "youngsters" will be surprised how they are viewed if they have a bad accident that renders them incapable of contributing "fully". They will also be deemed as overhead and an unnecessary burden on the rest.
Jesus, please have mercy on us!

I don’t call them liberals anymore. Leftist or communist is much more accurate.

That's exactly right, Talisker. Well said!

I applaud your rationality.

These days, I find myself referring to them as Uruk-hai.

No, Obama and the left did not technically deny it, they just denied the term “death panels”. Obama himself said that Granny might not get a new hip, just a pill for the pain.

Perhaps we, as a society could compensate by eliminating all welfare for the able bodied, the generational welfare parasites that have contributed nothing, the illegal aliens, legal immigrants.

There are many ways that we could save money before shutting out our elderly.

In the past, the elderly contributed their wisdom to society. But, since it can't be had quickly, painlessly, or through an internet course (and it often tells liberals not to do the things they want to do), wisdom is no longer valued. Hence the older folks among us are, either...

Someone should ask Blow if the physicist Stephen Hawking should be receiving expensive life extending medical treatment or should he have been snuffed years ago? What about Bob Dole and George H.W. Bush? Should Teddy Kennedy have been given extremely expensive brain cancer treatment after age 70? Should actor Larry Hagman have received a liver transplant? What about Dick Cheney’s heart transplant?

It is highly likely Mr. Blow would argue he and his fellow elites should be exempt from death panels because of their unique contributions to society. Blow and his fellow progressives are no different than the privileged throughout time, looking for special privileges and luxuries while denying them to the people they desire to lord over.

The young are like those plunderers who created the French Revolution. They tear down old institutions and build inferior one on top of the ruins.

What we need is more children. But the US has aborted most of the people who would have been supporting these grandparents, and those who weren’t aborted were simply never born because of the anti-child mentality that took over the US in the 1960s.

However, even if the elderly aren’t producers, they are markets for various services, and this is something that younger people have to bear in mind before they exterminate anybody over the age of 30 or whatever is the current top cut-off point for full humanity.
