I had 3 .45 ACP Pistols(a Rugar P90 and my wife had a Taurus Millenium) and we ‘think” that my daughter’s ex-boyfriends broke into our house sometime a stole both of them. We filed a report w/ the County Sherriff. I will be getting a gun safe too.

If you're on a budget (and who isn't these days), check out the Llama Max-1 M1911. I've had mine for nearly 20 years, put about 5,000-6,000 rounds through it, and have only had to put it in the shop once for a minor problem. Not bad for a $200 pistol (in 1995).

The 1911 design is hard to beat. Still ahead of its time. But I like mine to come from Kimber. They’re built to tighter tolerances and right out of the box will outshoot a Colt that’s had some accurizing done. It takes a top of the line Colt and a good gunsmith to get as good and tight a shooter as the entry-level Kimbers. It’s noticeable before you even take a shot. Kimbers don’t rattle. Pick up a Colt 1911 and shake it and it will rattle. That’s fine when you want parts easily interchangeable in the field, but not so fine for much else.

Of course, I also love my Glock 21. Some people swear by M1911s, others by Glocks...I love 'em both.

Kimber has an equivalent to the Colt Defender in 45acp which makes for a perfect CC. I carry a Colt Defender and that is all the gun you will need, defense or offence.

I would go with the Glock since I do not care for the 1911. But then again, I am not a huge fan of the 45ACP either.
40 S&W Glock if you want a lot of firepower. or my favorite,
if you are cool enough under pressure and are a good shot. .357 MAGNUM w/2in barrel.
Smith, Taurus, Ruger all work very well and will stop anything up to and including a Grizzly.
.043” smaller than a 40 but it will pump out a 158 grain jacketed hollowpoint up to 1250 FPS or a 180 grain jacked hollowpoint up to 1100 FPS.
you will be hard pressed to get any 45 jacketed hollowpoint out over 1000FPS. 185 grain maxes out about 1000 fps and heaver loads go down from that.
40S&W performs similar with a 180 grain jacketed hollow point topping out at 1050 FPS.
Lighter loads can be pushed faster. But for most the heaver load is preferable.

Down side is, you only get six opportunities, but you do not have to even think about jams.

Sig 220 PW or a Glock 30, and a Rock Island Armory 1911 for bedside with eight round MecGar mags (three to be secure)

Springfield Armory XDM in .45 ACP. Just saw one at Academy a week or so ago. Also Impact or gallery of guns.

Springfield Armory also has a new concealed carry single stack 10 round .45 ACP. But they are really in demand so I don’t know where you can find one. I think they call it an XDS.

Designs with the safety on the slide are not a good idea. Taurus actually improved Beretta’s 92 by moving the safety to the frame leaving the slide clean for tap rack drills.

I own seven .45 ACP pistols. Everything from an H&K Tactical down to a Kahr PM45.

I use all, depending on my needs, from hunting sidearm, home defense, or concealed carry.

Your use of these pistols is the most important question.

You don’t want one. No one makes parts or accessories for them.

I say 1911 all the way. Not a modern, double-stack, plasticized "1911-oid" but the classic single-stack. Colt still sells them, and so does Springfield and a bunch of others.

If you must have a more modern gun, you can't beat the FN FNX. It is feather light, holds 15 rounds and has a traditional DA trigger instead of the fiddly little Lego-like doohickey common on other polymer .45s.

If your FFL application isn't associated with a for-profit business entity they will not issue, or they will revoke you at a later date with additional badness. You don't need a storefront, but it helps, especially when they spot-check you.

There are probably a few collectors still receiving/holding FFLs in the name of a straw company, but BATFE frowns (deeply and with laser beams coming out of their eyes) on the practice. Be careful out there.
