Did “bored” teen James Edwards learn about crime from his mother? Edwards is the 15-year-old apparent gang member accused of shooting Australian baseball player Chris Lane in the back last Friday. He appeared in court Tuesday and reportedly made a mockery of the proceedings.
A search on Mugshots.com turns up one Brenda M. Edwards, 50, of Stephens County, Oklahoma. I called the Stephens County district attorney’s office today and confirmed that Brenda M. Edwards is James Edwards’ mother.
Edwards is currently incarcerated in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections . Her extensive rap sheet begins in 1994 with a conviction for larceny, and spans her son’s entire life. Click on the image to enlarge.
She has three known aliases. As things stand now, her relationship with Oklahoma’s criminal justice system won’t end for several decades. Her multiple convictions include distribution of cocaine. She was in court in Duncan, OK, as recently as May 2010, when she was found to have violated her parole by obtaining prescription drugs by fraud. Her probation was revoked.
If we’re going to blame a “culture” for James Edwards’ alleged part in Chris Lane’s murder, as some want to blame the so-called “gun culture,” shouldn’t the culture of recidivist criminality come under scrutiny?
Maybe they can serve their time in the same prison complex?

Jennifer Luna, who identified herself as the mother of Chancey Luna, said her son should be punished if he was involved.
In a tearful interview with reporters, she addressed the parents of the dead ballplayer: “I wouldn’t want to be in that position that they’re in right now. I’m always on my kids. I always tell them: If I lost y’all, I wouldn’t be able to live.”

As a former prosecutor, I can decipher her record with some ease.
She’s a pill dealer; she goes doctor hopping to get bogus prescriptions, probably for synthetic opiates like Vicodin or Oxycodone, and then sells the pills on the street. It’s big money. She more than likely also has a “pet” doctor who writes scripts, and collects Medicaid money for an office visit that may or may not actually take place. She also gets the scripts filled on Medicaid, so it doesn’t cost her a dime.
When LIRR shooter Colin Ferguson was tried in the 90s without the hate bumper it was obvious that the laws were a joke.
“They wanted to be Billy Bob Badasses,” Chief Ford said.
“I think they were on a killing spree. We would have had more bodies that night if we didn’t get them.”
On one of the alleged killer’s Facebook pages, investigators found the message: “Bang. Two drops in two hours,” Sky News reports.
They will be blaming Chris Lane for getting himself shot before long.

KWTV in Oklahoma City said they had killed an animal before Lane — and were set to kill another human later Friday when they were captured. Luna’s mother told the station that they were members of a “wannabe gang.”
THE teenagers accused of murdering Melbourne baseball player Chris Lane were dobbed in by a local who claims his son was the trio’s next target.
James Johnson, 52, called the police to tell them that the accused killers were hiding in the car park of the Immauel Baptist Church car park at about 5pm, two hours after they allegedly shot Lane.
“My son called me and said, “They’re saying they’re coming to kill me,” so I called the police and they got here within about three minutes,” Johnson told the Herald Sun.
Mr Johnson claimed that Edwards Jr had threatened the life of his own 17-year-old son Christopher on Facebook. His son was at home with his mother and sisters near the church when he received the death threat.
“They threatened to kill my son because they are in a gang, the Crips, and were trying to get my son in it and I wouldn’t let him do it.
“I told him he couldn’t run with those boys. He’s a little terrified.”
Mr Johnson said the Crips, a predominantly African American street gang that began in Los Angeles in 1969 and had been in Duncan for the past few years.
He said the group consisted of teenagers who he called “wannabes.”
“I’ve been living here all my life and we never had this, but in the past few years gangs from Lawton have been coming here,” Johnson said of the Crips.
Johnson’s son also attends Duncan High School, where suspect Luna and Edwards Jr. were students. He said he knew both boys, and described them as “troublemakers” and “bullies” who had “no parental supervision.”
