A California bill that could strip tax-exempt status from Little League, the Boy Scouts of America and other discriminatory nonprofit youth-serving groups could come up for a final vote this week.
The first-of-its-kind bill, SB 323, passed the California Senate and sailed through Assembly committees to a floor vote, possibly this week.
The bill, introduced by State Sen. Ricardo Lara, names the Boy Scouts, Little League, Future Farmers of America and 19 other organizations as examples of groups that could be stripped of their tax-exempt status if found to discriminate based on gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, race, religion or religious affiliation.
The measure also threatens tax-exempt status for public and private schools found to sponsor discriminatory youth groups. One critic said it could even threaten an exemption status held by a church.
Traditional values regarding heterosexuality are being branded as the legal equivalent of racism, and so theres the quite genuine fear that the tax code really is the battleground against the traditional churches, said Alan Reinach, executive director of Church State Council, which opposes SB 323.

There’s always the crips and bloods.
Those idiots in Sacramento need to be fired. Will this include churches that don’t embrace gay/ LGBT couples? “Discriminatory”? They’d better back off.
They should go after sierra club. They have a ton of cash.
It just amazes me when I read something like this; I just cant fathom how these people continue to get reelected.
My only guess is that the people that vote for these haters of liberty just dont pay any attention to the legislation produced by these people. Or they are willing to ignore this sort of thing as long as they continue to get the benefits paid for with other peoples money.
File a suit against every minority group for discriminating against whites.
It is long past time to stand up to the mainstreaming of profound mental illness.
Fired? I wish. CA demographics have ensured that the GOP is forever gone from CA ... or at least for the next 3 generations or so.
I suppose the only thing that could get the little league off his list would be if the pitcher was a girl, dressed up in a suit and tie, throwing to a catcher who was a boy dressed like little bo peep.
Are these people real? I find it hard to believe that Ronald Reagan once governed this state and that the GOP was once the solid majority. Now it’s not only the biggest state in the union but its the biggest joke. I think they should rename it Clownifornia. Yes, let’s go after the Boy Scouts and Little League baseball for discrimination. Never mind that the state is billions of dollars in debt. It’s largest cities are drowning in red ink but this buffoon Lara puts out this crap piece of legislation. The left coast deserves these idiots.
Little League - right.
Don't know about sexual orientation discrimination, but Chula Vista, CA just played in the Little League World Series championship. Blacks, Whites, Latinos on the team.
No girls on Chula Vista, but the Czech Republic in the same tournament had one ...
Perhaps the only exception to this fundamental, irrefutable, and simple rule is the procrastinators club. It has a few thousand members, and claims tens of thousands who will eventually get around to joining.
This state is about 1/3 puke liberals, 1/3 freeloaders and 1/3 conservative. The pukes make sure the freeloaders are at the polls. That is why ass wipes like this get elected and have free reign.
Proof of citizenship of “voters,” prior to voting, might go a very long way in routing some of the entrenched vermin sitting in Sacramento!
It’s an attack on the Freedom of Conscience/Thought. This will backfire.
Imagine a tyrant with all these laws on the books, but one who hates liberals.
