"A Yellowstone County district judge Monday ordered a former Senior High teacher convicted of raping a 14-year-old female student who later committed suicide to spend 30 days in jail."

"Judge G. Todd Baugh sentenced Stacey Dean Rambold to 15 years in prison, with all but 31 days suspended, for sexual intercourse without consent."

"Rambold, 54, will be given credit for one day already served. He was handcuffed and led to jail at the close of the hearing."

Looking at some of the knee-jerk reactions on this thread here - you’d think some of these Freepers would be calling for a murder charge.

He raped her. She later committed suicide - so therefore - HE MURDERED HER.

30 days? No. 30 days followed by a public flogging? Yes. 100 lashes for every year the girl was under age at the time of the crime.

The next child raped by this piece of offal should see Judge G. Todd Baugh put in jail for the rest of HIS life.

A) He was her teacher. That makes it rape as he was in a position of authority. Same as a prisoner having sex with a guard, even voluntarily is RAPE.

B) She is not at an age to make those decisions for herself. THAT makes it rape. There are LEVELS of statutory rape. For instance, in Georgia, the age of consent is 16. But ONLY up to five years older than the minor. But 14 is definitely a no no.

The respect for our courts continues its fall to new lows. In related news this forum continues the assault on reason.

The girl committed suicide? Unless it was ~clearly~ suicide, I would reckon instead, the perv gave her some pills to take, in case she got pregnant, and she died from loss of blood.

Certainly a teacher would have access to pills like that in today’s warped schools.

Sick.

Agreed! I can't believe that a true conservative FReeper would ever say that the 14 year old consented and was at fault in a situation like this. They might feel more at home over on DU. It's like Whoopie talking about "rape rape". Grrrr

Someone should ask Whoopi Goldberg. Maybe she’ll tell them 30 days is too much.

If I were her family I’d give the biggest, meanest prisoner a few bucks to make sure he never survived those 30 days.

I am sorry for what happened to you in your past. That is horrible, but there is no correlation between this and your case.

Why yes, this is Dean and I am hanging out on Freerepublic to troll you. I took a break from stalking the playground just to hop in here and give you the attention you are screaming for.

So someone has to experience something to have an opinion on it? So I guess the race baiting African Americans are right when they say you cant understand because you arent black. That’s some seriously twisted logic that only serves to minimize the opinions of those you disagree with. That’s a great way to escalate an argument into a screaming match.

I was molested at age 4 by two female baby sitters that decided to perform oral sex on me. While it may sound trivial, i can assure you it was not. Does that qualify me now? I do not believe that fact makes me any more qualified to render an opinion on this matter. One does not have to experience something to have a valid opinion on it. Feel free to try another attempt to minimize my opinion, but dont be surprised when you are met with the full force of your own ignorance.

Do the research. This girl had consensual sex with this man at least 3 times in 2008. Why are we charging 14 year olds as adults in murder and assault yet suddenly they are children when they have sex? Nobody can answer that question and it is clearly a twisted interpretation and execution of the law. Why is she a child but those charged as adults are not “children”? How do we legally and ethically make that distinction?

Growing up, I know a number of women who were having sex at age 13-14 with older men. They knew exactly what they were doing and they were using sex as a form of manipulation to get what they wanted, usually attention. They were not innocent little children doing things they didnt understand. Many continue to do this today, still banging and sucking their way to fame and fortune. It’s depressing. You know what every one of them had in common? None of them had active fathers. They were either deadbeats or they were alienated and run off by psycho mothers who didnt help the situation by parading endless numbers of temporary, surrogate, step-dads in their lives. That is why I made my original point. I doubt this girl had an active, positive father figure in her life hence why she was seeking out an older man. It is a fact that women often use sex as a form of manipulation to get what they want. Talk to any marriage therapist and they will fill your mind with stories, vastly women, either using sex or withholding it to get something they want.

Do i think 14 year olds should have sex with older men? No. But I also do not agree with the blanket label of RAPIST on anyone and everyone that commits this statutory offense. It is demeaning to real rape victims. This “teacher”, if you can call him that, is a obviously a pervert, and should be banned from teaching. I support statutory rape charges if filed on a case by case basis, not because a parent is angry at their lack of control or good parenting of their child.

6 months ago the 14 year old girl who lives a few houses down from me was caught giving blow jobs to the neighborhood boys, some as old as 16-17, in the park across from my house. She often prances around half naked, and relishes the attention that boys give her, going so far as to let them photograph her crotch while she splays her legs open in short shorts while riding the swing set. It’s disgusting. Last week she was yelled at, again by my neighbor, for giving the same neighborhood boys a feel up session while she lay spread eagle on the picnic table in her bikini. Her parents are divorced and her father is a Cop. Mom absolutely refused to believe any of it and did not inform her father. She was just a sweet innocent little girl! My neighbor, the great man he is, tracked down her cop husband who immediately yanked her out of that home. My point is not every 14 year old is a helpless innocent little child, hence why some are charged as adults. Some are, though, which is why i support a case by case treatment, just like with murder and assault, when dealing with minors. Zero tolerance is stupid when applied in all forms.

Charges should absolutely be filed when there is clear evidence of manipulation. Did this man use his position of authority to manipulate this teen into a sexual encounter? According to the judge, the answer is no, and he is in a position to best know the details of this case, emotions aside.

I dont expect my views to be agreed with or be popular. Frankly, I dont care. I’m not a Democrat and I dont base my life or self esteem on what others think.

I don't know where you're getting this info from but I've found NOTHING to substantiate your allegation!.

Reading your screed, it sure seems that you have "issues" with women! You keep alleging that this girl sought out and manipulated this RAPIST into having sex with her. By your own words, women are just manipulators!

Maybe it's YOU who should do the research - this RAPIST confessed to RAPING this poor 13 year old girl!

Thank you....check out my post #36 for some really good info. The “alleged” rapist is actually a “confessed rapist”.

you are one sick guy. 14 is not legal for anything regarding SEX. She is a child, you are the type of man who the crazy congressman was speaking to - legitimate rape - this is not about a girl who consents...it is not possible for a 14 year old to CONSENT. Blame the victim went out of style 30 years ago.

As for someone being banned - if that happens then this site will be losing more than one member.

Not trying to defend him if that is what he means but he might be blaming the dad for not being there and hence her vulnerability to older men.

I understand. This is not a personal attack but, in my mind, I visualize the poster for post 4 as looking like the judge whose picture is in post 8.

I also imagine that they both think alike in addition to looking alike — the good old “let’s blame the victim” ‘tude!.

Your approach is not a “legal” one, it’s an illogical one. First, you are comparing a victim to a perpetrator and asking that the law should treat them similarly in prosecution of cases.

We do not prosecute victims.

Secondly, if statutory rape was prosecuted by your standard of “case by case” deciding if they were capable of consent, then we would have vastly more cases of exploitation of minors by adults defending their actions by claiming the minor was capable of consent.

In other words, your system would enable more exploitation rather than discouraging adults of questionable morals from crossing the bright line distinction.

This judge’s words and sentencing have blurred that bright line and makes him unfit to be a judge.
