Breath taking!
Jonathan Swift could have written this article, were he alive today, and not done a better job of parody than this Benedikt person has executed without any intention of self-parody.

What an idiot. My job as a parent is to be sure that my child receives the BEST education possible. Since so many public schools are swamps filled with thugs and union organizers I can understand why a parent would chose a different option

"But it seems to me that if every single parent sent every single child to public school, public schools would improve. This would not happen immediately. It could take generations. Your children and grandchildren might get mediocre educations in the meantime, but it will be worth it, for the eventual common good."
Why can't the public schools be good NOW? What is holding them back? This idiot is holding out the promise that MAYBE in two or three generations the schools will be better.
Of course, the MSNBC web site touted this article as "compelling."

There are a lot of reasons why bad people send their kids to private school. Yes, some do it for prestige or out of loyalty to a long-standing family tradition or because they want their children to eventually work at Slate. But many others go private for religious reasons, or because their kids have behavioral or learning issues, or simply because the public school in their district is not so hot. None of these are compelling reasons. Or, rather, the compelling ones (behavioral or learning issues, wanting a not-subpar school for your child) are exactly why we should all opt in, not out. This is where I stopped. Please somebody tell me that this is satire? At Slate? Should I read on or should this have had a barf alert? What gives?

Public Schools generally suck because their priorities suck.
1-Maximize Union Dues
2-Indoctrinate students with Socialist, anti-Constitutional, Enviro-whacko, and morally vacuous agenda.
3-Minimize foundation in Science, Math, Physics, Chemistry, History (unadultrated), reading, or writing, or they might not become wards of the state.

OK, then the same can apply to cars too, Maybe we should force all those rich jerks driving BMWs to be forced to drive Chevy Volts... You know cause that will improve the volt, also instead of living in good part of town, why don’t we force move all the rich liberals into the more racially diverse neighborhoods in the crime laden inner cities...
You know I would rather enjoy that last one...

It is largely because public schools are run by people who “think” like Allison Benedikt that they so often fall short of providing a good education.

I guess it takes balls for a liberal MSM rag to come out and say Obama and Mooch are bad people.

Does she not realize even people that send their kids to private skewls are forced to pay taxes to finance the public schools.

My number one job as a parent is to do everything within my power to help my child get to Heaven. Anything under my control that detracts from that primary directive is bad.
Public schools are child abuse. Sorry, no, my kids are not going there.
Even private schools are immersed in the pop culture and peer pressure can destroy anything positive parents try to instill in their children.
That’s why we homeschool.

Socialist crapola.
For Socialists choice is only good if one kills ones baby or is promiscuous.
