Liberty will die the death of a thousand cuts. 50 years from now, things will be considerably worse than today. Will it be a 1984-esque dictatorship? Almost certainly not...but the trend is clear. There's a growing majority in the country that wants the government to "take care" of them. This will likely result in some sort of Euro-socialism.

Independence and self-sufficiency take work. Once most people get a taste of it, they are easily seduced by promises that they can have the fruits of hard labor without effort, just for voting for the slavers.

People will enslave themselves as long as they can remain comfortable.

Big Brother will smile and increase their chocolate ration to 40% of what it already is.
