McCain Urges Lawmakers to Back Obama’s Plan for Syria
New York Times ^ | Sept 2, 2013 | JACKIE CALMES, MICHAEL R. GORDON and ERIC SCHMITT

Posted on 09/02/2013 2:26:28 PM PDT by Innovative

The White House pushed forward aggressively on Monday for Congressional approval of an attack on Syria as President Obama got tentative support from one of his most hawkish Republican critics, Senator John McCain of Arizona, for a “limited” strike — as long, Mr. McCain said, as the president did more to arm the Syrian opposition.

After an hourlong meeting with Mr. Obama at the White House, Mr. McCain emerged with Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, to say that the two senators’ discussions with Mr. Obama in the Oval Office had been “encouraging.” He also urged Congress to support Mr. Obama in his plan for military action in Syria, saying that a no vote would be “catastrophic” for the United States and its credibility in the world.

I would just assume that anyone who follows McCain’s advice is going to be primaried and will have increased their chances of losing.

Sen. Cruz: Attacking Syria Is Not In National Interest

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3061198/posts

“Ted Cruz: Number one, under no circumstances should we be arming rebels who are affiliated with al-Qaeda. And this administration has already suggested they want to arm the rebels with no reliable means of differentiating al-Qaeda from non-al-Qaeda.

And number two, our concern should be those chemical weapons, preventing them from falling into the hands of Hezbollah, preventing them from falling into the hands of al-Qaeda. That should be guiding our actions, not expressing some moral outrage from a university faculty lounge. “

This will be the ultimate test for Congressional Republicans.

If they back the administration on Syria, it will simply signal that there is no longer any reason for the Republican Party to exist.

Immigration
Obamacare
Budget
Taxes
... and now War for no discernible reason

I am becoming more and more convinced that what McCain wants, is that the very last vision that imprints on his retinas is a massive, horrific mushroom cloud.

It would be his crowning achievement.

God forbid that this man would have been elected in 2008. It would have been FAR worse than having Obama in office.

The republican plan is to vote no. Is there some need for a different plan?

In SC expect several “true conservatives” to split the vote against Graham.

Senator McCain & Senator Graham.....I suggest you sit in chairs and calmly view & listen to every word you uttered in answer to reporters today on the White House driveway. An objective conclusion by any balanced sane human being would be that it is POTUS Obama that is the problem. No....McCain & Graham...we cannot trust Obama, never, ever!!! Instead of suggesting we back him and approve his attack plans for Syria, I urge to impeach him (Obama) for he is both the cause and reason for the chaos in the Middle East!!! Description of McCain/Graham....Idiots!!!

I hate to say it but the simple fact is that those chemical weapons are safest in the hands of Assad.
