CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa The Marine Corps said it will delay the deployment of an Osprey aircraft squadron to Okinawa following (yet another) Air Force "helicopter" crash in a military training area Monday.
The fiery crash of an HH-60 Pave Hawk sent plumes of smoke into the air near Camp Hansen in central Okinawa and left one crew member still missing early Tuesday.

The White House probably got the next one lined up for Sunny
When you say twenty years old, you mean the design?
The aircraft that crashed was not an Osprey. They are doing a lot better now. They fly by our house often.
Apple went bad, so we don't get any watermelon? BTW, how come we don't have any contra-rotating helos like that way- cool Kamov Alligator K-52. It is super maneuverable, has a high top speed and carries one hell of a load of armament ... and is cheaper than the Sikorsky, which looks like a Jr. High shop project with all that protruding hardware. BTW, now that the V22 Osprey has shed its crowd-killer rep, how is it really doing? Anyone know?
That is what stumped me when I read that response. How does the crash of a pave hawk reflect badly on the osprey?
Maybe it was shot down by some of the locals on Okiknock-knock who continue to hold hard feelings against the round eyes even after 70 years.
Pave Hawk.
Osprey
What bird is this and who makes it? Thanks.
Communists there bitch about anything American.
They’re just marking time until the HK-Ariel comes out. Date remains unknown. Skynet has not yet reached self-awareness.
The Pave Hawk is basically a souped-up Black Hawk.
Haven’t the Marines already retired the Phrogs?
Well, it’s the Kamov Alligator K-52. and the picture was in response to post #6.
It’s a Russian Military Helicopter.
Thank you. FIrst time I’ve seen it. Hot and lethal looking bird. I need to find some specs on it.
About half the MV-22s have been delivered to operational medium-lift squadrons to replace the CH-46 fleet. The MV-22 has a better safety record than any other Marine rotary-wing aircraft.

Thanks for the thumbs-up for the V-22. ....Not sure about the safety record being better than the AH Cobras flown by the Marines, however. There have been, and are, many more Cobras than Ospreys. So, percentage-wise, I’d say the Cobra has the better safety record.
I worked for Bell for 35 years, including development of the XV-15 tiltrotor, which was the proof of concept aircraft that led to the V-22 and was working daily with NAVAIR on developing the aircraft logbook for limited-life components. I also was involved in the progression of the Cobra, from the AH-1G up through the AH-1W and Z.
While the Zulus and Yankees are doing well in initial operational use, on a “mishaps per 100,000 flight hours” basis—the usual measure of safety—the MV-22 still ranks best. Cheers.
