Hey I’ve been there & it still works too. The state of Ark. has kept in working order, for a time when it is needed again.

Does the State of Arkansas maintain it? Or the National Park Service? Any idea what the sign on the gate upstairs says? Do they actually allow the public to walk up to the platform and admire 19th century engineering?

FWIW, when I was a youngster, my parents piled all the kids in a station wagon and took us to a drive-in movie one August just before school started. Clint Eastwood's epic Hang 'em High was the finale. I was so inspired by that contraption that I built a working model out of balsa wood. Darn good job for a fifth grader, if I say so myself. Then, I turned it in for a school project.

My parents got a call from the guidance counselor who thought I needed mental help. I played along with it because it got me out of a class I didn't like and into a special session with the GC. It took the school the full year to find out they were being played.
