Robert Reich Blames Kerry for Syria Fiasco on his Facebook Page
Facebook ^ | September 7, 2013 | Robert Reich

The driving force behind the folly of bombing Syria is Secretary of State John Kerry. I’m told Chuck Hegel has strong reservations, as do the Pentagon’s top generals. But Kerry has no reservations at all, and has convinced the President to stake much of his second-term presidency on it. Why? It’s possible, of course, that Kerry honestly believes that a punitive military strike against Assad is necessary, and that the benefits of such a strike would outweigh the potential costs. But I suspect something else is going on. Kerry is an intelligent man, but he has a fatal flaw. He craves the limelight. He wants to be in the center of the action and attention. Over the years I heard again and again from his Senate colleagues that Kerry grandstanded and wanted all the credit, said things that would get him on the evening news, pushed too fast and too far in order to make his mark. Recently he seemed to be making progress getting the Israelis and Palestinians back to the table, but perhaps he sensed that the incipient talks would drag on forever, and needed a new cause.

Forty years ago John Kerry called for an end to the Vietnam War but in his public pronouncements this past week he has sounded eerily like Robert McNamara in that tragic time – urging that America show “resolve,” that our “credibility” is at stake, that our “enemies are watching,” that we mustn’t “back down.” These were not then, and they are not now, reasoned arguments; they are exhortations. Kerry is on the warpath. The President is ultimately responsible, of course, but I fear he is listening mainly to the loudest voice in the room. And that loud voice is channeling loud voices from America's past -- voices that have led us seriously awry.

I’m sure Schumer is just as bad and may have the same exact nickname. Here’s a thread about Kerry:

Saving the reputation of dear leader is far more important than risking a world war.

The Left has turned deflection of blame into an art form. Whereas they blamed Bush for everything from AIDS to hemmorhoids, they rush to coddle Obuttwipe as if he’s a bullied child, even to the point of American lives at stake. It’s astonishing.

Hillary issued a statement in support of Obama via an unnamed spokesperson. Maybe later she will TRY to deny that she supported Obama but why does she current allow her support (via anonymous spokesperson) to stand?

He’s just trying to cover for Obama by blaming it all on Kerry.

I must go check out this article on DU..the O worshippers are surely blaming Kerry for this..

In truth, some of them must be paid by Obama as they are blaming Bush and the Republicans.

I admit I haven't seen Hillary's statement, but I'm willing to bet it's a very generic, very tame expression of support for Obama, one that will leave her with sufficient wiggle room if things go bad.

Hillary Clinton backs Obama’s call for action against Syria:

“Clinton supports the president’s effort to enlist the Congress in pursuing a strong and targeted response to the Assad regime’s horrific use of chemical weapons,” the adviser said in a statement.

"between the chin-chop and all the botox, he looks like a completely different cadaver..."

I was thinking Botox and fillers, too. But, I'm wondering if he has been on steroids since the face will usually blow up like his has.

But, I'm really in the Botox and fillers crowd for now.

What I don't understand, though, is why he didn't get his nose shaped a bit...and enough lip fillers to look like a duck (think Lisa Rinna/Meg Ryan)!

Kerry's face is a mess. It looks like a Halloween mask.

re: agreeing with Putin and Reich

For me, agreeing with Reich is more disturbing than agreeing with Putin. Reich is a pompous little twit; Putin is a man of accomplishments. I figure whenever the far left and the far right agree on something, the "middle" must have really messed things up.

Obama will leave Kerry twisting in the wind

Everybody seems to be missing this aspect. Obama didn't want Kerry as SoS....he was forced on him after the Susan Rice rejection. It's Kerry who has put himself in a lose/lose situation. If it passes, the inevitable escalation will be blamed on him. If it fails, Obama can lose confidence in Kerry and be rid of him. It's almost Shakesperean how ego has gotten in the way of intellect with Kerry on this one.

Another line of reasoning: Why would the traditional dems want Obama to succeed? They need to put Obama's people back on the plantation and retake the Democratic Party from them. Obama has done so much that is not in their interests or agenda and the mainstream dems risk losing their party, just as us conservatives have lost the Republican Party to the RINOs. Just a thought.

Gotta wonder if an angry Kerry will try to drag Hillary down with him by declaring she fully supports the resolution on Syria.

It is likely that Obama, Kerry and Clinton will ultimately win big. After Congress blocks military action, Assad will ramp up use of chemical weapons until it becomes intolerable to the Europeans who will then come frantically to Obama’s side. There is a certain fermentation time for this to happen. Just like in Kosovo...
