Some Pittsburghers are being ticketed or warned not to park in their own driveways under an obscure ordinance that requires them to pay $225 for a permit if they wish to park within 30 feet of a street.

Some residents have complained about the tickets and warnings, which are issued by the city’s Bureau of Building Inspection.

The agency is caught in the middle, contend John Jennings, its acting chief. …

The places may have been brand new and occupied, but they looked dead. Green graves was the impression I got. Well to each their own. Maybe just popular with busy working spouses who spend little time at home anyway.

Here’s a suggestion; don’t take the business if it is 25 miles away.

Well...aren't you a smug SOB! Who the hell are you to tell a business owner which business he should or shouldn't take!

I sure hope that no tradesmen will come to your house to fix anything because it's not a "commercially zoned" neighborhood. If you need a plumber what do you make him do, park on another street and walk to your house?

They’re just pissed that someone that they feel is beneath them can afford a boat, or an RV, etc. Nothing more than a reverse class warrior who despises skilled tradesmen. I guess they never got over the unspeakable horror of seeing a business vehicle.

Much more representative of GOP-e or DU persona rather that a FReeper. Definitely NOT a FReeper attribute. It reminds me of the smug attitude Zero used on Joe the Plumber!

You’re an idiot!!!
Any tradesman can come and perform services at my house or any in the neighborhood. It's when a tradesman parks his truck overnight, over the weekend end that I take offense and say park it where it belongs at your place of work.

First of all, no, I'm not an idiot! And about your total disdain for "a tradesman" you are an elitist snob! Tell me, oh wondrous one, what business are you in? My father was a very noble man, tradesman (and business owner)that he was. He'd get up at 2 am to go out in a blizzard to repair someone's heating system. It wouldn't have made sense for him not to have his service truck at the house but oh....that would have offended your upper crust sensibilities. Since you've already personally attacked me - screw you!

Can you explain why exactly it bothers you?

I pay no attention to what my neighbors drive or have in their driveways. Well, except for the guy who has the 57 Chevy. That one is pretty sweet.

What bothers me is that I live in a residential neighborhood and commercial vehicles are not permitted to park over night per city ordinances.

Don't bring commercial vehicles and park them over night. It will cost you.

I don't think you understood me.

I am not asking what the city ordinances says, I am asking you personally why the sight of a work vehicle so offends you.

I just don't understand caring if my neighbor just parks his work truck in his driveway. But I can understand it if it is a semi that he keeps running so it shakes all the houses around.

So why does it bother you?

Easy I believe in the law of the land. When someone thinks that they are above it, I dislike their attitude and will report them.

Kosy, With politeness. may I ask how you feel towards a neighbor or two, parking their “Company Marked” vehicle parked overnight and/or weekends if the were police?

Spoken like a good little brownshirt! What about when laws are oppressive? I sure hope somewhere along the way when you're going 2 mph over the speed limit you meet up with someone who thinks the same way and they'll report you.

I spent my youth in one of the nicest neighborhoods in this country, Sands Point Long Island. Plenty of cars parked in driveways. You are full of it.

So ten years ago if you spotted someone of American Indian descent walking around Boston without a pair of armed soldiers for escort you would have called the cops.

Understood.

A police car is not a commercial vehicle. Hope that helps you with the answer
