WaPo: Live: Police: Three shooters in Navy Yard shooting

Three shooters are involved in the Navy Yard shooting, a police spokeswoman said.

One of the shooters is “down,” police said, but two remain in a building on the grounds.

One of the shooters at large is dressed in fatigues. At least one has a long gun, police said.

The White House issued a statement on the Navy Yard shooting Monday morning:

Adm. Jonathan Greenert, the top U.S. Navy officer and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was at the Navy Yard during Monday morning’s shooting and was evacuated safely, Defense One has learned.

Greenert “was at Navy Yard at time of incident and evacuated safely,” said Cmdr. Ryan Perry, Navy spokesman at the Pentagon. Perry did not provide any casualty estimates but said the Navy is tracking “reports of several wounded/several fatalities.”

Capt. Mark Vandroff US Navy on Fox was in bldg 197 conference room. Heard commotion about 8:00. Someone closed the lockable doors to their office area and then they barricaded themselves in behind conference room tables. Heard shots and saw bullet holes in the conference room walls. Stayed locked down trying to get to co-workers in the building via texts to ascertain their safety. Police officers took them out of bldg. about 10:00 or a little after.

Does not work in the building yet there are reports (also from NBC) that he was targeting specific people. How did he know where to go?

He's being identified as a 'Navy contractor'. They're not saying what kind of contractor. Could be janitorial for all we know but it likely got him into the bldg often enough to develop grudges against specific individuals, learn his way around, swipe someone else's ID, and formulate a plan.
