Not too shabby for a job with a 3 month vacation every year. Compare that to a truck driver who might make $65,000 but only gets home for 18 to 24 hours every 3 weeks or more.

Do you really expect intelligent people to buy into your comparison of teachers and truck drivers?? Truck drivers are not even required by states to have a high school diploma much less any college, college degree or teaching credential. Truck drivers chose to take jobs where they are gone from home for long periods they are not forced to take these jobs any more than teachers are forced to take teaching jobs in china. Yes there is a high demand for foreign English teachers in china.

Next do you expect us to believe truck drivers have as much responsibility as teachers. You might be able to point out the very rare exception to this but it is not the rule for the massive majority of truck drivers.

Are truck drivers required by the state issuing the license to take several extensive state administrated tests to demonstrate their knowledge of Math, English, History, and an assortment of other subjects? Are truck drivers required by the states to go through two semesters of "student truck driving," under the supervision of two qualified professionals? No they are not.

Three months off in the summer? Again the facts and truth do not support this statement. Teachers are lucky to have 10 weeks off, it is usually more like 8 of 9 weeks. Many teachers use this "off time" to complete ongoing required continuing ed classes. I guess you just didn't know about those requirements.

This is an invalid comparison only bought into by people who are truly ignorant of what it takes to become a professional educator. You can be a truck driver in about 6 weeks at many truck driving schools. In this state it takes most teachers 5-6 years of college to become a teacher.

This post is a joke. Just watch the personal attacks come out when disinformation and invalid comparisons do not work.

Sorry, but my sister & brother-in-law are teachers, and you won’t get much support from me.

Truck drivers are generally more productive, serve a more valuable role, are treated like dirt by folks like you, and work MUCH longer hours with far fewer creature comforts. They have more responsibility than teachers, since people can die when they screw up.

Teaching requires the ability to breath during education classes. I took enough to know, before getting my BS in biology. I don’t dislike teachers, but I despise teacher snobs who don’t respect others. And in the world of modern trucking, with GPS tracking, making $65K/year is an uphill battle, to say the least. My son tried it and he made under $1000/month.

This country runs on trucks. I’d say there is a huge responsibility inherent in the job. Drivers are entrusted with 33K plus pound, for class 8, vehicles traveling down the highway, and in our cities. Everything you don’t make from scratch in your life spent some time on a truck. A teacher doesn’t pay attention in class for 15 seconds, maybe some spitballs get thrown. A driver doesn’t pay attention for 15 seconds, people get hurt. A driver has to make his route/delivery/appointment in the middle of winter, he won’t get an off-day. There is much more responsibility for a truck driver than you give them credit for.

You do realize how your statement looks, of only 10 weeks, or more likely 8 or 9 weeks of vacation? There are those of us who do the continuing education thing, certifications,, or more often than not work on advanced degrees while working 50 plus hours per week. This while having only 2-3 weeks of vacation?

I see nothing in your post that dismisses the fact teachers are not the poorly paid victims we are told they are.

Next do you expect us to believe truck drivers have as much responsibility as teachers.

Define responsibility.

Truck drivers have hundreds, thousands, millions of lives that they could snuff out in an instant. Year after year, after year. You don't think those responsibilities are worthy? Are you capable of that?

What's the track record of "teachers" screwing up kids? Pretty high..from what I read. But not killing them...so much.

Maybe you don't think the 18 yr old kid without a "degree" in the military doesn't have as much "responsibility" as you either. He/she is just trying to keep our butt's safe.

Of course "teachers" know everything...about everything. While enjoying their 8-10 weeks off a year...as you pointed out. Maybe doing some CEU crap along the way....

Okay let me just come clean....I think most teachers are a joke....Of course I think most any professionals in any profession are generally a joke. : ) I'm in the medical biz....I know Doc's who are jokes. Nurses who are jokes. Therapists who are jokes.

So...I guess my point is...you can crow about teachers...and get your jolly's bagging on truck drivers, but that doesn't mean your "better" than them!!! PERIOD.

This is not to mention his and her gold sealed medical and other benefits...

This goes on in govenrment at *ALL* levels...

No joke.

Truck drivers have a number of requirements that the general public typically does not know about.

Random drug testing, Haz Mat testing, a physical exam every two years requiring vision tests and drug screening (in addition to the random potential testing,) documentation of hours worked in a certified log book on or off 24/7 365 days a year. Truck driver CDL licenses require also more strict standards as in alcohol testing.

Additionally, it cost a lot more money to obtain a license. Drivers are restricted in how many hours they can work in a given time period. That limitation is usually 60 hours in a 7 day period or 70 hours over 8 days which works out the same using the Governmets new truck driving math..

If you find yourself 100 miles from home but have reached your limit for hours then you get to stay put for whatever amount of time it requires to pick up the 8 hours necessary to start driving again. That does wonders for family life in many cases.

Personally, I find that teachers today are a sorry lot despite the positive marks that they are constantly giving themselves whenever the opportunity arises. Taxpayer funded pensions and earlier retirement are only some of the privileges that teachers are provided with.

Teachers are a dime a dozen and there are few job openings these days, but a long anticipated shortage of qualified truck drivers who maintain the supply chain in this country is at hand.

I am not a truck driver myself but I am familar with the industry and I do maintain a CDL for myself just in case some day I need to get behind the wheel.

This post is a joke.

The joke is all the academic hoops they require teachers to jump through, hoops designed to pad the job rolls in higher education and artificially raise the salaries of teachers.
