A small asteroid first discovered last week will whiz by Earth Wednesday, zipping closer than the orbit of the moon.
The diminutive space rock, named 2013 RZ53, poses no threat to Earth. At just 3 to 10 feet (1 to 3 meters) in diameter, the asteroid would burn up in Earth's atmosphere if it got on a collision course with the planet, scientists say.
2013 RZ53 will not strike Earth on this pass, however. The asteroid will miss the planet by more than 148,000 miles (230,800 kilometers) when it makes its closest approach today at 6:20 p.m. EDT.

Any odds it will hit DC?
At 6:21 p.m. EDT, I will begin making random calls to the east coast to see if anyone answers. Hope & change.......
Or NYC, Chicago or Los Angeles or MAYBE EVEN San Fruitcisco!
DC, DC!
I am on record saying we need intervention from a higher power.
A ten-foot sized rock would make a nice streak across the night sky. Sorry, folks, it won’t take out DC or any of your other favorite Sodoms and/or Gomorrahs. It is amazing that we can track the orbit of an object that small.
Fifty foot rock? That’s another story. I’ll get back to you on that one.
Is it ‘Slowing Down’?................
It is amazing that we can track the orbit of an object that small.
But we cannot rtack a moving mass of over 12 million illegal invaders.
Well, we discovered it Friday. That part isn’t encouraging.
San Francisco would be my choice
RZ53..
sounds like a gas additive or a hemmorhoid treatment.. jmo
:-)
“It is amazing that we can track the orbit of an object that small.”
Amen that
In the words of timothy Robbins .. Or someone
’ a chill wind runs thru the tidal basin ‘
Ask not for whom the sky glows
.. It glows for thee
If its a dense enough object, ya never know.. I’d like a shot. A chunk of the action could be quite lucrative. :-)
A sewer gas explosion would wipe out the whole town! ;-)
The collision of an asteroid with DC would make it a roid to roid collision.
where’s Leeloo when we need her?
The only way we'd get that lucky is Divine Intervention.
If it hits Damascus, the mainstream media will give the credit to Obama.
