A quite a few years ago we had been staying at our lake house on Shasta and my then 10 year old daughter had a bad case of stomach flu. So on the third straight day of her sickness we drove into Redding to the ER. We were the only ones there about 5:00 pm on a Sunday night and then the crack heads starting coming in. All had the same symptoms if severe headache and none of them could produce their MediCal card or ID for treatment. It was pretty funny watching and listening to them and their need for stronger meds because their headaches were so bad.

End of the story was they billed my insurance $6000 for that visit but the 20 or crack heads all got treated at no charge...

Wait until Obama care kicks in and you have to wait in line for two weeks behind these slugs. Oh, and the cost will be $100,000.

As a person with long experience in the insurance billing business, I would guess that the hospital got something in the area of $600 for the $6000 charge.

Check your EOB (explanation of benefits) if you can find it.

Nevertheless, $600 is more than nothing, last I can recall.

My sister, an RN, tells the same kind of story about the meth heads and crack users coming to the hospital needing medication regularly and of course for free which our gubmint gladly provides for them. You and I pay for those drugs. Time to shut the door on free drugs.
